Birthday Break-in and Robbery

My name is Helen Duffour. This fundraiser is for my beautiful daughter Mikhaila. This last week and a half, she had flown in to stay with us from Colorado. We’ve been dealing with multiple major family crises here, as well as she was going through some extremely tough stuff back home. She’d recently started a new job, and had to move quickly into a new apartment, when her housing situation changed drastically and unexpectedly. Despite powering through the rockiness in her own life, she still took off of work, and came out here to assist us. It also worked out to being a desperately needed opportunity for her to catch her breath, and to be loved on. Yesterday, I was blessed to be able to spend part of her 24th birthday with her before she flew back home.

At around midnight, I messaged her to make sure she’d gotten home safely. When she replied, she said that she’d just gotten home, and had discovered that she’d been robbed while in Illinois. The thieves took EVERYTHING. Jewelry (a valuable/sentimental pendant), tv, makeup, hair products, vacuum, pillows/bedding, toiletries, clothing (even her socks, underwear, and laundry basket full of dirty clothes). You name it, they took it. She has nothing but the backpack she came here with. They also took away any peace of mind she had staying at the new place alone. All the thieves left behind were a couple of books, trash, a futon mattress, and a candle where they’d put a cigarette out. She didn’t have a lot, but the bit she did have was stolen on her birthday. Needless to say, she is in shock, and is feeling broken and devastated. This was getting a drop kick, when she had already been laid out flat.

I’m going to do everything within my power to help her out, but it will not be enough. Unfortunately, this last year has been a brutal financial beat down for me, so money has been very hand to mouth. She is going to need to find a new apartment, and to be able to pay her deposit and rent right away. This being just weeks after moving into her current place. She is also going to have to replace all her necessities, wardrobe, furniture, food, and day-to-day items.
