I have the cutest dog. Period. He's flawed in other ways, but hands down, Billy takes the win in the modeling category. Remembering back to our last good hike together, when we went up behind the Greek Theater and listened to Sam Smith -Billy smiled the whole time, even while I went for hours in the wrong direction. It was so much fun. HE had so much fun!
I have a billion memories like this, and something tells me he's got a billion more to make... we just have to eliminate one tiny problem.
A year ago Billy started to slow down. "He looks like a puppy!” I still hear from just about everyone on the street, to which I reply, "Well he's been 4 for about 6 years now." Good lord has time really gone by that fast? His limping gradually turned into me carrying him around the block. X-Rays, 3 different antibiotic treatments, a biopsy that came back inconclusive, and now a massive tumor that's presented itself in such an odd way it even has Veterinarians in LA and back home completely stumped (no pun intended). I'm financially depleated. Removing Billy's leg has always been a first option for both doctors, but it wasn't for me. I was vain - I honestly couldn't see that as a choice.
Now, it's my only option. Daily, I see it in his face that he isn't sick, his leg just sucks. This isn't "His Time To Go" and I'm not being selfish wanting to keep him around longer. He's hurting and it can be helped.
Billy once laid in bed with me for 3 days straight while I had the flu, he wouldn’t even go with my roommate outside to pee. Bills will always follow me, even if it’s in the wrong direction, because that's what love and loyalty are. I want to do everything in my power to show him the same kind of loyalty he’s always given me, because like I said, we’ve got a billion more memories to make.
Surgery is set for the 16th. I'd like to move it up if I can raise the money sooner. They say he could be up and walking 3 days after surgery. I can't wait to see how adorable he's going to look with 3 legs!!!
