Bike Messenger Recovery Fund - Maurice Burum

Hello, my name is Danielle and I’m starting this fundraiser for my best friend and partner Maurice Burum, who was in a severe accident involving a Metro Van Pool while riding his cargo bike for work.

Maurice was rushed to NW Hospital for abdominal pain and a large gash on his left shin. Shortly after arriving to the ER, he received notice that his abdominal injuries were traumatic, it was discovered that he had a perforations in his lower intestines and a large hole in his bowels. He needed to go to Harborview to have emergency surgery to repair the trauma.

Maurice’s surgery went well, they were able to clean up his abdomen, repair the hole, and trim his intestines but the recovery will be long and extensive, the mental trauma as well as the physical. Maurice is a Bike Courier by profession and is now not able to work nor ride his bike. Along with his life changing injury, the person who caused the collision is trying to claim it was Maurice’s fault, yet according to the Seattle Police Report Maurice is the victim, meaning he will need to go to court to get the justice he deserves.
