Hi, my name is Egypt Ina-Marie Darensburg King. This fundraiser is for my mother, better known as Bigg (Mama) Beverly Darensburg Aks. She was a wonderful, warm, nurturing and caring individual with the calmest spirit. She was a former Black Panther, Community activist and Eastern Star, an Oakland Housing Authority RAB member, the oldest African-American ambassador for Oakland Trybe, the Oakland Gumbo Cultural group, the Oakland's, Formerly Incarcerated Giving Back, founder of the Oakland Gumbo Cultural Group and a member of Peralta Hacienda where she assisted with the children's community center. Her story is told in the Peralta Hacienda Museum, about migrating from the south at the height of racism. Also, the eldest African ambassador for Restore Our City Services ROCS. She was a mother of 15 living children, many grandchildren, a sister, a godmother, an auntie, and a community mother for so many. She should be laid to rest appropriately for all her accomplishments and outreach completed in her community.
