Bettina’s Fight Thyroid Cancer Fund
Bettina is a cancer survivor who already went through three major cancer surgeries in 2017. On January 26, 2017, Bettina found a lump sitting between her ribcage and her left breast. Alarmed, she quickly went in to see her primary care doctor and a slew of tests including blood work, mammogram, ultrasound, MRI and needle biopsy confirmed her worst fear. In the middle of February, she heard the terrifying words "You have breast cancer". She underwent a double mastectomy at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, California on May 16, 2017, followed by a reconstruction surgery on September 6, 2017. Later last year, on November 2, 2017, she had a third major surgery with a radical hysterectomy.
While recovering from three major surgeries, Bettina started rebuilding her life as a single mom to 10-year-old Zoe. She is so thankful to everyone who helped her with support during her first three surgeries. With both her parents passed, she appreciates everyone and every organization who helped her last year. She was praying that these would be her last surgeries.
In May, Bettina felt growths on both sides of her throat. Soon after, she felt it difficult to breathe and sleep lying down. She went in for a doctor visit and a biopsy, and on June 1, 2018, she was diagnosed with tumors on her thyroid (an intermediate invasive carcinoma bilateral). Of the five on her thyroid, two are malignant.
Bettina will need surgery to remove her thyroid, radioactive iodine, and approximately 60-90 days of treatment and rehabilitation before she can begin work again. She is planning the surgery within the next 30 days.
Her aunt is helping her with housing for the recovery time, but Bettina and her daughter Zoe will need funds to live and pay expenses.
This GoFundMe campaign is to help Bettina offset the huge cost of treatments as well as having no income during the recovery process.
She will need help with groceries, household and personal supplies, car payment, health and auto insurance, prescription medicine, and gasoline.
Total estimated time off work for treatment and recovery is 2-3 months with a budget of about $2065 each month which creates a need of about $6195.
