Hadrian's Wall Challenge for Betsy

Donation protected
On the 26th of May 2018 a group of Betsy’s family and friends will be setting off to take on the epic challenge of walking 84 miles coast to coast along Hadrian’s Wall from west to east to raise funds towards specialist equipment and therapy for Betsy.

My 3 year old niece Betsy has Asymmetrical Dystonic Cerebral Palsy which means that parts of her brain don’t function to give her body accurate messages. This was caused at birth when Betsy suffered from hypoxic ischemia and her brain was starved of oxygen. Betsy is unable to walk unaided and requires support with daily tasks; her left side is much weaker than her right which has an impact on sitting, and eating independently. Betsy currently completes weekly physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and has completed a course of hippotherapy which all incur substantial costs. She uses specialist equipment to sit, stand, walk and eat.

Betsy is a determined and happy little girl – she is very bright and has a great sense of humour. She loves school and learning new things. Our dream for Betsy is that she grows and develops alongside her peers with the aspiration that one day Betsy will walk unaided and successfully accomplish her own ambitions in life.

As Betsy grows and develops she needs a lot of extra support and specialist equipment which is very expensive. Any donation towards the ongoing costs of the therapy and equipment we feel is so important for Betsy will be very much appreciated.

The walk along Hadrian’s Wall will be a challenge! Hadrian’s Wall was built in AD122 on the orders of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, and stretched from the West to East coasts of Britain, from Bowness on Solway in the West to Wallsend in the East. It is the most remarkable Roman monument in the country and quite unique throughout the former Empire. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site which cuts through Northumberland National Park, Hadrian’s Wall attracts trekkers from all over as it offers great challenging walks, filled with a stunning backdrop and history.
