My name is Liz Hallmark, I am creating this page for our close family friends, The Benson’s. The Benson’s are a very active family of five who are now enduring a long rough road while my friend Danielle (DD) Benson fights Leukemia.
Just after Memorial day DD went to the hospital with rib cage pain and an increased heart rate. Three days later she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and was life flighted to UC Davis Medical Center, in Sacramento, California.
Since diagnoses she has received three rounds of intensive chemotherapy and has had to spend many weeks at UC Davis in the hospital which is 5 hours from home, away from her three beautiful young children and husband Kaylon.
Though the chemotherapy successfully sent her into remission, the doctors told them that without a bone marrow transplant, there was a 100% chance that the cancer would return. The doctors explained that even though it is very risky, the transplant would reduce the chances of the cancer coming back to 25%.
After all of siblings were tested, her brother KC was found to be the best match and she will receive the transplant this Thursday September 27th. If everything goes well she will be in the hospital at UC Davis for 1 month. After that the hospital requires a 2 month stay within 30 min of the cancer center in Sacramento. A full time caretaker is required so Kaylon will be staying in Sacramento with her.
Danielle’s grandparents will travel from Oceanside to stay in Alturas with the kids to take them to school and extracurricular activities. The 2 month stay in Sacramento after discharge will not be covered by the insurance and they will be supporting two households which will be very difficult financially.
Throughout all of this DD has stayed incredibly strong and positive. Often choosing to be alone in the hospital so Kaylon could stay with the kids. She has put her family first every step of the way.
Your prayers for a full recovery would be so greatly appreciated.
Any financial help would also be very helpful during this difficult time.
