As I was preparing to move out, the basement beneath me caught fire, resulting in loss of my personal belongings and property. Luckily, I was home at the time and could subdue the flames coming up from beneath me until the firemen arrived and sawed a hole through the floor to put out the fire! I was lucky that I could get my dog and myself out of there alive, since the fire had cut out the electricity and the place was completely filled with smoke! So scary! Had I been asleep, I would be dead and the whole place would have collapsed!

This has been one of the most surreal and heartbreaking experiences of my life, and I now have been displaced from my home as a result. I am currently living in a hotel room with my dog, as the restoration process is ongoing and may take up to a year to complete. At this time, I am also unemployed, which only compounds the difficulties that I am facing, as I struggle to provide for myself and my dog in the wake of this tragedy. It is devastating to lose all your things, but it does put it in perspective that it is the people in your life who really matter most, not the things that you have…Anything that you could give to help offset the costs would be greatly appreciated!
