Ben Walburn's F-Cancer Fundraising
One day you learn that one of you best buddies, someone who you genuinly enjoy hanging out with, a colorful soul wrapped in a well constructed body and filling a classic Massahole personality, musician by talent, rock climber at heart, free spirit by choice and intelligence, and deep inside, a humble and sensitive human, a bro ... has cancer. A big one. A serious one. Leiomyosarcoma. Stage 3. This is the story about Ben.
We are not doctors. But we are friends. Family. Or just people who might have heard about Ben. We are his Karma. We can't directly remove his cancer. But we can help Ben fight it and go through the worst of times. Ben already went through three rounds of chemo and 5 weeks of radiation. He is doing well, considering, and that gives hope. The surgery is the next step and is expected to happen no sooner than December as his body, devastated by chemo and radio, needs some time for recovery. Ben won't be able to pick up any job for months to come and like many other cancer patients in America he is spending his savings and relying on help from people like us.
Ben will never admit it and his MA sense of lowliness and humility will not make him ask anybody directly for help. But I can ... and he really needs it. Money is not just a way to buy things...in this case it is a gesture that we care. Now more than ever.
