Once I was able to get her to the vet, I found she had Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA). Essentially, her immune system is attacking her red blood cells.
She is a very sick little girl, still feverish, dehydrated, and, she is very jaundiced, from the breakdown of her red blood cells.
She will need a blood transfusion, and then, very aggressive treatment with steroids, and, will be spending probably at least 5 days, at the ER vet.
Normally, in my life, I probably would have let a dog in this situation be put down. But, Bella is only 3 (just, August 10th), and, has been my almost constant companion, since I got her. She even goes to some appts with me (My medical caretakers just love her...!!).
I have lost a great deal in my life recently, as those who know me, can attest to. I don't think I can lose any more. Especially, yet another being, who is so precious to me.
Please, if you can, donate whatever you can afford. I've already paid over $2000 to the ER vet. This being the ER vet, and, that they've said she'll probably have to stay at least, almost a week, I put the goal high enough, to cover her expenses (if I end up with extra, I'll donate it to something for pet care, for people in need).
I'm on limited income. I had to spend all I had, money I had saved for bills, to get them to start treating her. She will probably be on meds all her life, I've been told, if she makes it.
Please, please, help, if you can. Every little bit helps.
"With primary IMHA, your dog's immune system mistakenly produces antibodies that attack its own red blood cells. (The vet said they believe Bella's is primary, no way of knowing why it happened, it's not from an underlying cause, like cancer, etc...)
