Beirut Nurses affected by Aug 4th Explosion

What Happened?
Late afternoon on August 4th two explosions ripped through the city of Beirut, Lebanon, killing more than 200 people, injuring 6,000, causing US$10-15 billion in property damage, leaving hospitals, schools and workplaces destroyed and more than 300,000 homeless. The level and breadth of devastation is truly hard to comprehend.
How can we help?
Nurses will continue to care for people despite their own personal loss and trauma. But nurses also need support as so many have been affected by the devastation. So many have lost loved ones , homes and some even their lives.
This drive is to raise funds to go directly to nurses who have been affected by the explosion and to support the grieving family of nurses who has been killed by the disaster. We are working directly with the highly respected Dr Myrna Doumit , the President of the Order of Nurses in Lebanon who will distribute support to those in need directly.
A Message to us from Dr Myrna Doumit -
"Thank you so much for your support of the Lebanese nurses. We are really deeply grateful. In fact what happened goes beyond words and any description. It is more than a catastrophe; so much is lost, but our Lebanese nurses proved once again that they are Superheroes. Being wounded themselves did not stop them from helping evacuating patients and extracting bodies, including their own colleagues. A whole city was destroyed, but within 15 minutes of the explosion nurses from all regions in Lebanon were on the alert and heading to Beirut City to help, regardless of personal loss or worries for loved ones. Those who were not needed on site and who are living and working in the region donated blood to support the people of Lebanon. 2020 is The International Year of the Nurse. The Lebanese nurses have endured it so far through a revolution, an economic crash, a pandemic and a nuclear explosion!
On my side we have started to assess damages at all levels, physical and materialistic . Many nurses lost their cars, houses, all their belongings, and due to the economic crash they are not able to replace them . Also many are wounded and not working. We are not sure if the demolished hospitals in our crushed economy can keep on paying their salaries . These truly are dark and desperate times for our country and for our colleagues."
Already our interest in our Lebanese colleagues welfare has helped them know they are not alone and we will support them as they rebuild their hopes for their families , their city and their professional colleagues.
