Many who know I’m from Texas have been kind enough to inquire if I have any family or friends that have been affected by the devastation of hurricane Harvey. While I am fortunate to report everyone is safe, I have close friends who own and operate a restaurant in Port Aransas that was destroyed. I’ve started this gofundme to help the employees of Behringer’s Landing and the Rocking B. More details provided below:
Behringer’s Landing and the Rocking B is a small restaurant and bar located in Port Aransas, TX, a beach town that was hit hard by hurricane Harvey, last week. My good friends Steve, Brenda, and Steven own and operate the business, which opened in 2014. They have 6 or so employees and operate at this single location that was completely destroyed by the storm. In speaking with the Behringers and trying to assess their outlook on the damage, I was touched by their response; while they are overwhelmed with the burden and immense work of needing to rebuild the location and replace equipment etc., they are even more concerned about their employees. Luckily, the company has insurance that will help with the rebuilding efforts in order to get the restaurant and bar back up and running. However, for my friends and their employees, there will be a gap of time between now and reopening, where no operating income is available to make payroll. Payroll that would allow for their employees to pay for mortgages/rent, food, bills, and other day-to-day needs. One of their employees has a wife and three kids now faces a period of no income while needing to provide for his family.
Being aware of all this, I knew I needed to help in whatever way I could. Steven is one of my best friends from childhood. He was one of the first kids I met when I moved to Decatur in middle school. Throughout the years we became close friends and I spent a lot of time around his family. Steve and Brenda were always so welcoming and generous to me and so many countless other kids in the community. They fed armies of young men each week during the football season and held countless get-togethers at their home that have served as warm memories as I look back on my high school years. In all the time I’ve known the Behringers they have given to so many others without taking thought for themselves. They are salt of the earth people that truly anyone would be fortunate enough to count as friends. In life there is giving and receiving and for as much as I have received from the Behringers I’d like to ask you to join me in helping raise funds to help them and the families that depend on their employment, in this time of need. Thank you for your help!
