Beautiful Little Warrior: Battling Cancer 2022-23
Donation protected
My name is Kelly Kiki. I am the luckiest guy in the world because my friend is a Beautiful Little Warrior. As a veteran, I don't throw the label of warrior around to just anyone. London Bowater has earned this name due to the three life-threatening battles she waged and won before entering her teenage years.
London is a survivor of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Before you read any further, ask yourself this heartbreaking question: How many kids do you know that have faced cancer treatment 4-times in their life, all before the age of 16? Thus, this fight is all too familiar.
Four years ago, I had the honor of creating a Gofundme for London and her family as the costs of travel, lodging, and loss of work hours are a punch to the heart in a family's most challenging moments. We believe in the power of numbers.
Here is her WARRIOR story:
Little London was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in February 2012 when she was just five years old. As my neighbor and friend to my children, I have traveled with London through prayer, love, and support.
Initially, London did well throughout her treatment, but then she relapsed a few months before her treatment was to end. This was the beginning of many setbacks.
After her relapse, she was sent to Seattle to receive a cord blood transplant in hopes of getting rid of cancer for good. After the transplant, London developed life-threatening GVHD (Graft VS Host Disease ). She had to remain in the Seattle Children's Hospital for a very long time and was finally discharged in December 2016.
On 07/11/18, London was re-diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia after having found suspicious-looking cells in her stomach during a routine scope. She was sent back to Seattle Children's Hospital for a 6-month stay to receive CAR-T cell treatment, followed by another transplant she received in February 2019. The second transplant went well, and London has been able to enjoy life cancer-free for almost four years.
Just last week, London went in for her annual scope, which no little girl should endure. The GI doctor said he was very concerned about what he saw. Biopsies were sent off, and on November 16th, the family received the news that the cancer was back!
This makes no sense! It is her 4th diagnosis and 3rd relapse of Leukemia. The family will return to Seattle Children's Hospital for an undetermined amount of time for another round of CAR-T cell therapy. Since London has received two transplants, she cannot receive a 3rd because it is too toxic to the body.
It is time to put cancer behind London. We must become prayer warriors and stand with her and her family. God, we seek your healing and strength for London, her family, and all the magnificent medical staff that stand at her side.
London is a bright, beautiful, strong 15-year-old girl who loves God, family, friends, school, art, and piano. London wants to live everyday teenage life. The past three years have offered her some of that—but not nearly enough.
Family is everything to London. She has a 23-year-old brother, Jaydon, an 11-year-old sister, Bella, a 7-year-old sister, Holland, a 17-year-old step-brother, Zack, a 3-year-old little brother, Tavish, and a 5-year-old little brother, Brigham.
Each of London's parents currently serves as a member of our Armed Forces. They have had America's back for years. Now let's have theirs!
Why do London and her family need your help?
If you or anyone close to you has been through cancer, you understand the need for prayers and support. We believe in the power of prayer!
Unlike four years ago, inflation is an understatement, and when your world is on fire, it can be crippling. The funds raised will help the family with travel costs, any special needs of London, and the cost of being displaced from home and living in another city—yet again—for an unknown amount of time. Shelby, London's brave mom, is a surgical technologist at Providence. Like so many unknowns, Shelby will be away from her job for an undetermined amount of time.
