On Saturday February 6, 2016 sweet baby girl, Baylor Olivia, was carried to Heaven in the arms of an angel. The night before Nikki had gone to the hospital because she was having contractions, they monitored the baby and Nikki for hours, got the contractions stopped (it was just a little too early for Baylor to make an appearance into the world) and everything looked medically "beautiful" as the doctors put it. Because Nikki was given the label of a high-risk pregnancy early on for other complications, the doctors decided to keep her overnight just in case. Baylor was kicking and playing in her Mommy's belly as she normally did, but Josh and Nikki went to sleep that night and woke up Saturday morning to the unimaginable. The nurse came in that morning to check on the baby and hook Nikki to the monitors, there was no heartbeat. The nurses tried not to show they were panicked, they told Nikki to stay calm and they would go for a quick ultrasound. But a mother knows and Nikki did...she knew her baby girl was gone and the ultrasound confirmed her greatest fear. Where there should've been a fluttering heart on the screen, there was nothing. Baby Baylor was gone.
Within minutes of finding out that they had lost their daughter, the situation took a turn for the worse and became a medical emergency. Nikki began to bleed uncontrollably and the doctors were unable to stop it, everything they were doing was failing. The situation was getting worse by the second. Nikki was rushed to the operating room, she had lost 85% of her blood supply and was barely clinging to life. While the doctors scrambled to save her life and deliver Baylor via c-section, Josh was left dealing with the reality that he had lost his daughter and now his wife was in a fight for her life. At 1:51pm on Saturday February 6th, the doctors delivered Baylor Olivia Weisflock stillborn. She weighed 6 lbs. 1 oz. and was 20" long. She had a head full of dark brown hair and was absolutely beautiful. The doctors wrapped her in blankets and took her to her Daddy so that he could hold his beautiful "sleeping" daughter and to inform him that they saved his wife's life. They explained what happened, the placenta had fully detached and was floating, Baylor had been unable to receive the oxygen she needed inutero to survive and Nikki had been bleeding internally. Within minutes of the detachment Baylor had gone to Heaven.
Here are a few words from Nikki:
"On Saturday our world crashed down around Josh and I and we lost the sweet baby girl that we were so anxiously awaiting the arrival of. After she was delivered and I had recovered enough, Josh brought our baby girl in to me and when I saw her I saw the true definition of perfection. She looked like she was just peacefully sleeping and she had a smile on her tiny lips that we will never forget. To think that the first person Baylor saw when she opened her eyes was the face of Jesus brings us such comfort. Our daughter went to sleep and woke up in a place full of love and peace and everlasting life.
Josh and I kept her with us for hours, studying every inch of her that we could so that we will always know exactly what she looked like and exactly how perfect she was. She is a tiny version of her Daddy with her big sister, Kendyl's, button-nose. We talked to her and we held her tight, we made sure she knew how much her Mommy and Daddy love her. She has brought so much joy and happiness to us these past 9 months and we are left with a huge void in our lives. A piece of our heart will always be in Heaven, we will never be whole, but we find comfort in knowing that one day we will see her again and she will be just as perfect as she was the day we first laid eyes on her!"
This campaign was created by Josh and Nikki's families because during this difficult time the last thing these parents need to worry about are expenses. They need to focus on grieving and healing and getting through day by day with their other children. Life must go on and if we can make it just a little easier by helping them financially during this tragedy, we will try. God Bless you all and hug your loved ones tight, you never know what God's plan is and you want them to always know you love them.
