Hi! My name is Grace Melon and I am raising money to fund my short film Bath Salt. The story is about a teenage cancer survivor who finds out her friend from the hospital has died. It is a semi-autobiographical piece as I am a two-time leukemia survivor. I know from first-hand experience that surviving cancer brings on its own challenges, and those challenges are only heightened when the friends you go through treatment with don't make it. I think it is vital to tell this story, to honor those who have survived cancer, but still fight internal, emotional battles every day. Once completing this film, I plan to submit it to film festivals around the country.
The exceptionally talented actors and director who have joined on this project are Melanie Neilan, Janet Ulrich Brooks and Nadyja Von Ebers. Melanie made her film debut in Stephen Cone's critically acclaimed Henry Gamble's Birthday Party and was most recently seen in Steppenwolf Theatre's Domesticated. Janet is a longtime Chicago theatre veteran and has won multiple awards for her work in the theatre and film, including a Joseph Jefferson Award for outstanding acting. Nadyja is a published writer with a range of directing experience and script editing. I am a sophomore at The Theatre School at DePaul University and I have been acting professionally in Chicago for over six years, having been in various plays, TV and film. I am very excited to be acting in the film as well!
The money I raise on GoFundMe will not only help us pay for our actors, cinematographer and camera equipment, but will also help us with post-production costs, such as editing and distribution. Your donations are so greatly appreciated. Every dollar gets us closer to bringing this important story to life and I am tremendously thankful to everyone who helps!
