Last year, we met the Barton family when Bill joined our team at Envizion IT to oversee marketing initiatives. Through our interactions, we learned about their son Lucas, who, at the age of five, was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). By the age of eleven, Lucas's condition had progressed to the extent that he relies on a wheelchair for mobility, and specialized lifts for his daily routines, including transitioning from bed to wheelchair, and accessing essential facilities like the shower and toilet.
Despite having comprehensive health insurance, the Barton family still faces numerous expenses not covered by their policy. These include recurring travel costs for several medical appointments and/or specialized treatments in Columbus or Grand Rapids each year. Additionally, they require various specialty equipment such as a wheelchair-accessible van, car lifts, and specialized furniture like kitchen tables to accommodate Lucas's needs. These expenses highlight the significant financial strain associated with managing Duchenne muscular dystrophy and maintaining Lucas's quality of life.
Throughout the past year, the Barton family—comprising of Bill, his wife Marcie, their daughter Sidney (14), and their son Lucas (11)—has served as a profound source of inspiration for Nicole and me. Despite the challenges posed by Lucas's diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, their unwavering faith and resilience in the face of adversity have remained steadfast. Their enduring hope in God has been a beacon of strength as they courageously navigate the complexities of Lucas's condition, demonstrating remarkable determination and perseverance in their ongoing battle. Their example serves as a reminder of the power of faith and resilience in overcoming life's toughest trials.
We're extending a heartfelt invitation to all our friends to join us at the farm for a special cause—to raise funds in support of the Barton family. This year, we're introducing admission fees($20) and hosting auctions for various items to contribute to their journey. Again, we'll have food truck(s) on site to satisfy your cravings, and of course, what's a country concert without a couple of kegs of Coors Light? Let's come together for an evening of music, camaraderie, and generosity as we rally around the Barton family and make a meaningful difference in their lives. We will also be holding a silent auction if anyone would like to donate an item.
