The Baltimore Star Project’s objective is to establish a strong network through case management on a student by student basis, while simultaneously building connections between Star Students and community. Students will learn the importance of community while engaging in experiences outside and within their home city. This year-round program will focus on college preparation and job training. An added element will include community service and mentorship. The Baltimore Star project will partner with a Baltimore City high school and other nonprofits to build a strong network of support before, during, and after college.
Our goal for this fundraiser is to raise enough for at least a third of our budget to cover operational cost and support our initiative to introduce kids from Baltimore to experiences from outside of Baltimore. This organization is lead by Shahem Mclaurin, a Baltimore City youth, who became the first of his family to earn a bachelors degree. His aim is to redistribute social capital and assure that other youth from Baltimore's underserved communities have the same opportunity.
