My Name is Ty Brown and I am the Founder and Director for the Brooklyn United Music & Arts Program. For the past 26 years, I’ve taught Marching Band to inner city youth in Brooklyn. Brooklyn has changed so much over the past 26 years but for some reason the issues that plague our young people and threaten their possibility for success is still seriously as relevant today as it was 26 years ago. Brooklyn has seen a rise in crime, shootings and gang violence. Our young people’s lives have been flipped upside down by a pandemic that no one saw coming and all in all there has been a major need for a youth focused agenda here in Brooklyn. With all my heart I want to scream that prevention is the key, early planning is the goal and that engagement is the must!

My organization recently lost its home, this was our 4th space in the past 7 years. It’s hard, very hard to borrow space, rent space and try to grow a dream program. It seems like a no brainier, a successful program who has proven results in the areas of:

Youth Development

Civic Engagement for Youth

Educational Support

Pathway to College

Community Giveback

Performing Arts

Mentorship & Leadership Development

You would think that a program who has successfully saved so many lives would have a home secured by the leadership who has called upon us countless times for performances. You would think that a borough that has buildings and land being developed daily would create a home and a safe haven for youth. Well, now is the time. I have identified a possible home for Brooklyn United.

I propose that when successful I would be able to service hundreds of students on a daily basis. I would offer cultural arts and educational programming that will give young people a vehicle in which they can express themselves and develop the life skills needed to become amazing contributing citizens in this society. I propose that when successful, I would be able to provide the support workshops for parents to change the lives for their families thus building the mindset needed to change generational ills that have plagued our inner cities.

My attraction factor would be what this space offers:

Marching Band

Dance

Computer Labs

Mentorship Meetings

Sister Hood Clubs

Brother Hood Clubs

Career Explorations Workshops

College Tours

Community Service Projects

Gymnastics

Theatre & Acting

Vocal Training

Piano Classes

DJ Classes

Recording Studio

Radio Station

Media Arts & Graphic Design

Photography & Videographer

Journalism & More!

Our young people deserve a place where they can be safe from gangs, they deserve a family village atmosphere where they can develop life skills to lead the future generations.

I am asking you to join me in making that happen. I am asking you to honestly leave no stone unturned in your determination to help me ask everyone for their support. I am asking you to take a chance on BU! Believe in BU! Let’s show up for the young people that have represented Brooklyn over and over again for over 2 decades!
