My name is Amber. Brandon Cole is my brother. I am setting up this account in order to give continued support for my brother and his family.
As most of you know,On Saturday,August 15, Brandon was admitted to WK Pierremont with severe pancreatitis. This is a life threatening illness that affects many major organs in the body. In his case the kidneys and lungs suffered the most damage. Within 24hrs of admittance he was in full renal failure and his lungs were beginning to lose capacity. He developed ARDS (Adult... Respiratory Distress Syndrome). In short, this is an aggressive attack on the lungs that provides absolute brain damage, it can be temporary, permanent, cognitive, or motor skills. In addition to ARDS, his blood oxygen level was at a dangerously low level for a significant period of time. On Sunday, he was lucid and responsive but suffering from labored breathing. So much so that he was retaining dangerous levels of CO2...this also affects your mental capacity and causes much distress on many organs of the body. Monday he was moved to ICU with the advisory that dialysis and a ventilator may be necessary, within five hours of that move he was on both. Once the dialysis was close to completion his oxygen levels started to aggressively decrease. He was placed on a ventilator and still took longer than expected to stabilize. All efforts were exhausted at WK, so he was transferred to LSU for a rare alternative trio of treatments. Patients receiving these treatments have a 50% survival rate. As of 8PM, Brandon was doing better than expected, although we are still at an hour to hour point. These treatments are expected to last days to weeks, should he survive them. Beyond survival, we are looking at damage to his brain, heart, and lungs.
He is now out of ICU and has gone thru several Physical and Occupational Therapies. He was released from the hospital today, September 16, and will have to continue these therapies.
I am asking for financial support through this site from all family and friends. Through his entire hospital stay, everything he and Holly had financially has been depleted. Hospital and home health bills are going to start pouring in. Holly has not been able to work as of yet, due to her extended stay with Brandon. He will not be able to return to work for some time. Anything is helpful. NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL!
