Brigitte Fights Cancer

This campaign is for my best friend and the love of my life, Brigitte. It took us a long time to find one another, but we finally did. You know that fireworks- love struck feeling they show in the movies? Well, we had that - minus the special effects. We knew we were going to spend our lives together- I had gained my soulmate and her precious daughter, and we were making plans to unify our lives through marriage. What started out as an exciting, hopeful journey took a devastating turn and stopped us in our wedding planning tracks.
Last December, our family learned that Brigitte had stage four cancer (spindle cell sarcoma to be specific). As if that news were not bad enough, a second and third option from respected oncologists confirmed that this particular cancer is extremely rare and extremely difficult to treat. We were informed that chemotherapy can only hope to slow down the spread and buy us some time, but given the intense and detrimental side effects of chemotherapy, we were left feeling as if we had no real options at all.
Brigitte's last scans in March were alarming. With a 10 year old daughter, who adores her mother, a loving family, and plans of sharing our future together, no option was just not good enough. Brigitte has too much to live for and we have so much to fight for.
Refusing to give up hope, we discovered a different treatment with promising results: hyperthermia therapy in conjuction with other natural approaches. Hyperthermia treatment essentially raises the body temperature high enough to effectively damage the cancer cells. There is an article on this therapy posted on the American Cancer Society web site link. So finally, we feel hopeful and excited- there IS another option! Brigitte's best chances actually lie in a few clinics in Germany which specialize in this type of therapy and have experience using it on the type of cancer Brigitte has! Here's the catch, this therapy is not covered by U.S. insurance. The only way this treatment will be an option is if we can raise the funds.
That's why we need your help! American medical insurance doesn't cover this treatment at all, which means we will have to foot the significant costs of this therapy out of our own pockets. By helping us raise the funds to cover this treatment, you will also help us ensure that we can continue her treatments when we return home. Your donation will give us a chance to fight for to the ending we always imagined for our lives: married, old and gray- reflecting on an amazing life together.
