Hace 32 años, tomé la decisión que cambió la vida de salir de Venezuela, dejando atrás todo lo que había construido y despidiéndome de todas las personas queridas. Ahora mi hermano menor se enfrenta a la misma decisión, en un clima mucho más urgente porque el país es mucho más peligroso e inestable.
Siempre tuve una conexión muy especial con mi dulce hermano Daniel. El impacto de la muerte de nuestro padre golpeó duramente a Daniel; Era joven, inocente y vulnerable. Los años han sido difíciles para el; tuvo que encontrar su camino y construir su vida por su cuenta.
Tuvo la suerte de conocer a su maravillosa esposa Sandra y de tener a su hija Camilla, que espera con ansias su carrera como odontóloga. Pero Daniel sabe que la pesadilla es inminente. La violencia y el caos se han convertido en una forma de vida en Venezuela y su familia está en peligro.
Ahora es imposible para Daniel trabajar y generar suficientes ingresos para mantener a su esposa e hija. Gracias a la ley de nacionalidad sefardí, Daniel tiene la oportunidad de convertirse en ciudadano español y regresar al país donde nació. Puede tomar hasta un año para obtener su nacionalidad española y poder trabajar, pero Daniel está dispuesto a correr el riesgo y comenzar desde cero. No hay elección, su familia debe estar a salvo, nada vale el precio de vivir en peligro constante.
Sandra continuará trabajando y Camila terminará su carrera de Odontología en Venezuela, hasta que legalmente se les permita unirse a él. Daniel necesita apoyarlos financieramente hasta que puedan reunirse en España.
Mis hermanos y yo haremos todo lo posible para ayudarle; Esto es crítico. Implicamos a todos los que conocen y quieren a Daniel como nosotros, que contribuyan a aliviar su difícil situación.
La situación es la siguiente:
1. Daniel tendrá que mantenerse durante el todo el tiempo que dure el proceso de nacionalización yenvíar dinero mensualmente a su familia.
2. Tendrá que incorporarse al ritmo de vida europeo. Esto puede ser relativamente complejo pero necesario. Familarizarse con el sistema de vida y de trabajo español, no es un proceso sencillo. Yo mismo tuve que hacerlo cuando me mudé a Canada.
Tendrá que aprender los nuevos códigos. Cuanto antes lo haga mas rápidamente su integración.
3. Reconectar con nuestra familia en Madrid, sus antiguos amigos del colegio y la comunidad judía, le permitirá adaptarse y esperemos, iniciarse en una actividad que le permita volver a empezar.
En que se utilizará el dinero recogido por las donaciones:
-Subvenir a los gastos de alojamiento y comida durante el periodo de espera de la nacionalidad Española
-Transporte aéreo
-Contribuir al sustento de la familia (Sandra y Camila) en Venezuela
-Una vez se le otorgue la nacionalidad, tendrá que desplazarse de nuevo a Caracas a recoger el pasaporte en el consulado Español.
¿Por qué ahora?
Porque su expediente fué finalmente aceptado y debe viajar a Madrid para firmar.
¿Por que Madrid?
• Daniel nació en Madrid y España ofrece la nacionalidad española a los judíos sefardíes. Le da la oportunidad de inmigrar legalmente en lugar de reclamar el estatus de refugiado. La presencia de nuestra familia extendida será, sin duda, una excelente ayuda para su futura integración.
• Todos somos conscientes de la pérdida material sufrida por los venezolanos: la inflación redujo el valor de la propiedad y sus ahorros a cero. Daniel y su familia necesitan vivir en un país donde el trabajo diario mejore su situación económica y les brinde la estabilidad que tanto necesitan.
• Daniel planea llegar a Madrid el 24 de agosto. Esperamos que este nuevo comienzo signifique que nunca tenga que regresar a Venezuela.

Now my younger brother is faced with the same agonizing decision, infinitely more difficult because the country is far more dangerous and unstable.
I always had a very special connection with my sweet brother Daniel. The impact of our father’s death hit Daniel hard; he was young, innocent and vulnerable. The years have been tough for Daniel; he had to find his way and build his life on his own. He was fortunate to meet his wonderful wife Sandra and to have his daughter Camilla who is looking forward to her career as a dentist. But Daniel knows the nightmare is imminent. Violence and chaos has become a way of life in Venezuela and his family is in danger.
It is now impossible for Daniel to work and generate enough income to support his wife and daughter. Thanks to his extended family and the Sephardic nationality law, Daniel is fortunate to have the opportunity to become a Spanish citizen and return to the country where he was born. It may take a year to obtain his Spanish nationality and be able to work, but Daniel is willing to take the risk and start from scratch. There is no choice. His family must be safe, nothing is worth the price of living in constant danger.
Sandra will continue to work and Camila will finish her Dentistry career in Venezuela, until legally they are allowed to join him. Daniel needs to support them from afar until they can be reunited in Spain.
My siblings and I will do whatever we can to help; it is critical. We implore everyone who knows and loves Daniel as we do, to contribute to ease his difficult situation. Thank you on behalf of my brothers and sister to bring Daniel and his family home and give them a new life in Spain.
Daniel’s situation:
1. Daniel will have to stay for the entire duration of the nationalization process and send money monthly to his family.
2. Becoming familiar with the Spanish way of life and work system is not a simple process; it is complex to what he is used to in Venezuela but critical to his future. Daniel
will need to learn the new rules. The sooner he begins, the faster he will be able to integrate.
3. By reconnecting with our extended family in Madrid, his old school friends and the Jewish community, Daniel will be able to adapt faster and begin his new life.
How will the funds raised be used?
-Cover housing and food expenses during the waiting period until he obtains the Spanish nationality
-Air Transport
-Contribute to the expenses of his family (Sandra and Camila) in Venezuela
-Once he is granted citizenship, he might have to travel back to Caracas to collect his passport at the Spanish consulate.
Why now?
· Because his file was finally accepted and he must travel to Madrid to sign the documents for his passport.
· The situation is urgent. Daniel has always worked in the tourism industry which has completely disappeared in Venezuela.
Why Madrid?
· Daniel was born in Madrid and Spain offers Spanish nationality to Sephardic Jews. It gives him the opportunity to legally immigrate instead of claiming refugee status. The presence of our extended family will undoubtedly be an excellent aid to his future integration.
· We are all aware of the material loss suffered by Venezuelans: inflation reducing their property and life savings to zero. Daniel and his family need to live in a country where daily work improves their economic situation and gives them much needed stability.
· Daniel is planning to arrive in Madrid on August 24th. We hope this new beginning means he never has to go back to Venezuela.
