"Bye for Now" to our friend Avery
Greetings beloved family and friends,
It is with much love and support we announce that after more than a decade of living in & serving New Orleans, our beloved sister & friend Avery is leaving us to care for her mother in Florida who is battling a second round of breast cancer.
Avery moved to New Orleans in 2006 through AmeriCorps VISTA to support local artists as they fought to return home and reestablish their lives. Since then she has continued to be an active citizen and influential leader in this community that embraced her as one of its own. Personally and professionally, she has impacted many. The Center for Restorative Approaches, Tulane’s Center for Public Service, College Track New Orleans, FAMU Greater New Orleans Alumni Association, and numerous other community organizations have developed and grown due to her dedicated leadership and service.
It is with this same heart and spirit that when learning of her mother’s most recent diagnosis of advanced metastatic breast cancer in May of this year, she decided to make a quick transition back to her hometown of Jacksonville, FL to attend to her care and recovery. Let us celebrate & support our sister. She is leaving behind her home, community & an indelible legacy of love & service that can never be duplicated. All funds raised from this campaign will be used to support her mother's care, cover her moving expenses & basic needs while she spends the next several months focusing on family & building a new life in Jacksonville.
If you would like to donate to her via Pay Pal instead of GoFundMe please go to paypal.me/AverySupport. We will also be hosting a "Bye for Now" Gathering & Potluck on Saturday, June 24th, 2017 at 2827 Fourth St. NOLA from 4pm until. Love offerings, hugs & final words of encouragement are welcomed. #livingbeyondcancer #family1st #cancerfighter #communitylove #ittakesavillage
