Support Aster Miller's Final Drum Corps Season

My name is Aster Miller. I was raised by a single mother in Western North Carolina and am now a junior at East Tennessee State University. I am majoring in Parks & Recreation Management and have two minors in Music and History. I have been in the workforce since 2019, I have volunteered at many organizations since 2017, and I have completed three internships since 2022.

In September of 2024, my family and community were devastated by Hurricane Helene. Property damage, the loss of heirlooms, and the loss of life were tremendous. The months following Helene were an immense struggle emotionally, physically, and financially. Being the only family member available to help my mother, all of my time, energy, and money went toward our recovery and survival. Since then, it has been even more difficult to afford college tuition and rent.

I have been playing the trumpet since 2015 and have participated in marching band since 2018. Throughout the years, the marching band has always been a welcoming and supportive community. This activity has brought me lifelong friends, unforgettable experiences, and priceless education.

Drum Corps International is a summer program best described as a professional-level competitive marching band. The activity hones the student’s musicianship and athleticism. Students spend months with a corps of their choosing to learn, perfect, and perform a marching band show around the country for the entire summer.

I have been offered the wonderful opportunity to perform with the Blue Knights Drum Corps this summer for my final season. However, amazing opportunities do not come cheap. Marching DCI has been the most incredible experience of my life. With your help, I will be able to do my favorite activity one last time this summer.
