Many of you have been following and supporting our coworker and friend Ivonne’s daughter, Karmen Maya. Over the past few weeks, so many people have come together hoping and praying for her safe return.

With profound sadness, we are now facing a heartbreaking reality. Leah and I originally created this GoFundMe to help Ivonne find her daughter. Now we are pivoting it to help Ivonne and her family cover funeral and memorial expenses.

Karmen was 17 years old and an incredibly gifted student. She was already in her third year studying Biotechnology at the University of Maryland, after skipping several grades because of her academic abilities. She was supposed to start her spring semester on February 11, 2026. She had so much ahead of her and was deeply loved by everyone who knew her.

No parent should ever have to go through the loss of a child. The last thing Ivonne should worry about right now is the cost of funeral arrangements. We hope this fundraiser can help take some of that weight off her shoulders.

Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help Ivonne and her family during this unimaginable time.
