Ashley’s Fight for Life-Double Transplant at UCSF

Aloha everyone,

As some of you may know, Ashley Dudoit was suddenly diagnosed with heart failure along with kidney failure which he has been courageously battling for the past two years. On January 31, 2026, he was medivaced from Molokai General Hospital to The Queen's Medical Center, where he has remained ever since.

During his time there, he has undergone three different procedures in hopes of restoring his heart function and improving blood flow. Unfortunately, none have been successful enough to allow him to recover and return home to Molokai.

Ashley has now received the difficult news that he will need a double transplant — both a heart and a kidney.

University of California San Francisco (UCSF) has agreed to accept him as a patient. The first step will be implanting a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), a mechanical device that helps a weakened heart pump blood more effectively. This will serve as a temporary solution while he awaits a heart and kidney transplant. He will need to relocate to San Francisco and live with the LVAD until suitable organs become available.

Here is where we humbly ask for your kōkua.

Although Ashley has double medical coverage through Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA) and Medicare, neither provider is willing to cover any portion of the required air ambulance transportation from Oahu to San Francisco. The out-of-pocket cost for this critical flight is $79,275.

After nearly 30 years of faithfully paying premiums, it has been heartbreaking to learn that this essential transport is not covered.

Right now, our only priority is getting Ashley to UCSF as soon as possible. The team at Queen’s has done everything they can, and there are no further treatment options available for him here. While we know there will be additional medical and living expenses in California, our immediate focus is securing the funds needed for this life-saving flight.

We are deeply grateful for any donation, big or small. Every contribution brings Ashley one step closer to the care he desperately needs.

Mahalo nui loa from the bottom of our hearts.
