Mourning Brunch and Benefit Event Goal
On March 9th I am hosting a Brunch and Benefit in memory and honor of my father’s life and death. Friends and family are welcome to join in celebration of the life of my father, “Fred”. We will start the morning off right with fine breakfast foods and pastries, paired with mimosas. A memorial table will be set up with family photos and token items. We will also recognize the Boy Scouts of America org, my dad’s contributions, and make a public donation of $500 with local troops present. For over one hundred years, Boy Scouts of America has provided programs with a singular mission of preparing young people for adulthood, and to be responsible citizens. Information about the event can be found at https://www.facebook.com/events/2096951647262502/
About Fred Thompson
Frederick James Thompson, better known as “Fred”, age 61, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away on January 6 2019, due to health complications.
Fred was born in the Panama Canal Zone on August 28, 1957. He graduated 8th grade from St. Mary’s of the Assumption and later from Port Richmond High School with honors. He continued on to receive a technical degree in Engineering from Staten Island City College.
After graduating Fred decided to move across country and ended up in sunny San Diego California, where he worked at the shipping yards for several years. Fred fell in love and was married to Nancy Pinkerton, on March 26th 1988. They enjoyed time traveling to Australia together and eventually moved north to Portland Oregon. They were married 12 years and had two beautiful children Nicole and Jamie.
Fred worked as an Engineering Inspector for Broward County Construction in Florida and after leaving the county he worked for several construction companies in the Miami-Dade area. He was a distinguished Eagle Scout of Troop 74 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church and later would go on to be an influential Scout leader for many black youths in NE Portland. After formally retiring he spent most of his time fishing, camping, listening to his favorite bands, hanging out with friends, discussing politics, and helping his buddies out. He always knew how to work hard and play hard and care for others when he could.
Fred is survived by his two daughters Nicole age 26 and Jamie age 24, former wife Nancy, his mother Emmeline, his siblings Josefina, Lloyd, Dana, and numerous nieces and nephews and friends all over the country.
