Who I Am
My name is Luis, and I am an artist and art educator based in Edinburg, Texas, in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley. For more than 15 years, I have dedicated myself to teaching and creating art that reflects the beauty, struggles, and truth of our border community. My current series centers on the Rio Grande, exploring its cultural and political significance through portraiture and drawing.
Why This Project Matters
Art should be accessible. Original works are often out of reach for many families in our region, where the median income is lower than the national average. By producing affordable, high quality prints, I hope to make art ownership possible for more people, while also supporting local artists by giving them a way to share their work widely.
The Challenge
Recently, I invested in three large format Epson printers to print my work and that of other regional artists. Unfortunately, none of the printers are currently operational. Despite purchasing supplies and attempting repairs myself, they require professional servicing. The estimated cost of repairs is about $5,000.
How You Can Help
Your donation will go directly toward repairing these printers and turning them into a community resource. Once running, they will allow me to:
- Produce affordable poster sized prints of my work
- Help regional artists create prints of their art
- Expand the presence of local art in homes, businesses, and community spaces
Why It Matters
This is about more than fixing printers. It is about building a stronger, more inclusive art community in the Rio Grande Valley, one where local voices are seen, heard, and valued.
