Apr. 23 - Thank you all so much for your overwhelming support. We’ve exceeded our original goal of $5000 so we’ve updated it in the hopes of offering April even more support. Thank you again!
This is April, Craig and their beautiful family. At 36 weeks pregnant, on Wednesday, April 3, April began experiencing some minor symptoms of reduced hand dexterity and trouble enunciating some words. By Saturday she went into emergency with her partner Craig. A CT scan showed a large mass pushing on the back of her brain causing the symptoms. She was admitted and booked for an induction the following Monday, April’s birthday.
Craig and April welcomed healthy baby Conrad on April 10th to the delight of their three other children Marley, Billie and Gabe.
An MRI confirmed the CT findings but doctors couldn’t confirm exactly what the mass was and if it was cancerous. It was clear it would required aggressive management due to the sheer size of it, encroaching on many key important structures in her brain. Friends and family watched anxiously as April’s symptoms worsened drastically and new symptoms emerged affecting her ability to walk, see and communicate.
Surgery was performed on April 17th and thankfully the doctors have indicated that everything visible was removed and they believe it could be benign. They now wait for confirmation as April works on her recovery and caring for her newborn. She was released from hospital on April 19th but is relying tremendously on Craigs support for basics as she still cannot walk unassisted and is still experiencing symptoms with her vision and fine motor skills. Craig is also the primary caregiver for two-week old Conrad and is caring for April during her recovering.
These events have added a tremendous amount of stress on the family with Craig having to stop work to care for April and Conrad. As their friends, we are rallying to help lift the burden in any way we can.
Thank you so much for reading. Any support is greatly appreciated and we are incredibly grateful for your kindness and compassion.
Thank you
