1 week at NYC Speech Zone
Thanks to the help of http://www.apraxia-kids.org our family was able to locate a specialty camp that serves children who have been diagnosed with Apraxia of Speech. Brody is now 7 and wil be entering first grade in September. We'd like to give him a speech boost prior to his academic year at Greenfield Elementary. We're targeting the week of August 21st.
Camp Speech Zone is pediatric speech-language and occupational therapy center located at 2112 Broadway (b/w 73rd & 74th Street) New York, NY Camp Speech Zone is the perfect place to address Brody's speech and language needs! With a 6:2:1 ratio, their specialty camp serves children with special needs around ages 5-10. I am told some of the kids that go to this camp also have hearing issues (as does Brody) so instructors are well versed in AAC, sign language and other modalities of expresive communication. Themed days include multisensory activities, field trips and neighborhood outings. The camp will be 9-1 daily and then Brody will have 1:1 speech practice with an SLP who is very familiar with CAS. I am in the midst of trying to arrange for nearby housing during that week for Brody and for me and I'm hopeful that we will be able to do this through the kindness of very compassionate relatives living in Manhattan.
Unfortuntely, Philadelphia does not offer a camp such as this or I'd be all over it. :-( In addition to day camp, I plan on exposing Brody to all of the visually arresting sights of The Big Apple which I am sure will spur speech! The novelty of new urban exploration is sure to do this (Times Sqare at Night, Central Park, etc.).
Monies raised will help offset the costs of camp registration, meals, transportation, private therapy sessions and other incidentals.

Brody, Michael and I thank you from the bottom of hearts for helping us along our jouney to help our son.
We're so thankful for your generousity and love.
If monies are raised above and beyond our goal, we will make a contribution to http://www.apraxia-kids.org .
