My name is Anya Shekinah and I’ve been diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. For 20 years I have been a Tantra teacher and a member of beloved community. My husband Steven Vogue and I have been in a deep, evolutionary relationship for 33 years. He closed his Naturopathic / Chiropractic practice several years ago, only seeing a limited number of occasional clients, in order to devote his time and energy resources to supporting me with growing a relationship-focused online business. I recently developed an unexplainably swollen leg which, upon investigation, revealed I had a 4 by 6 cm tumor wedged between my pancreas and my vena cava. This was initially erroneously diagnosed to be pancreatic cancer, which is pretty much a death sentence, and obviously a very challenging diagnosis for both Steven and I. Ultimately that diagnosis was changed to stage 4 endometrial cancer.
I went on a 42 day water fast to starve the cancer but only lasted 32 days. The water fast so weakened me that it has taken a month to recuperate. During the water fast, I lost so much weight that my skin started to hang. Devoid of fat at 100 lbs, I was able to feel my colon and discovered at least two hard masses there suggesting I have colon cancer. My gastroenterologist offered no consolation stating I needed to have an MRI with contrast to determine what was going on. I will know the full extent of what I am dealing with after my next MRI.
In the meantime, I have been unable to work since late March. I will probably need extensive surgery which will prevent working for the rest of the year. As I have been the main breadwinner, my health crisis has turned into a financial crisis.
Simultaneously our lease came due, and unable to handle the stress of a move with everything else happening, we had to commit to another years lease. Having a stable home is essential because, along with helping me and doing the necessary health research, Steven must reignite and grow his chiropractic business.
This is the second Go Fund Me account; the first was created by our beloved friend Scott Catamas; however his account did not allow me to adequately manage it in important ways. Therefore, this new funding campaign is intended to replace his and bypass those disadvantages. What Scott did for us was infinitely valuable and we are forever grateful to him for taking on the responsibility, however we want to take that responsibility off his shoulders. The $13,000 I’m hoping to acquire with this campaign is merely enough to cover living expenses and get me started on alternative treatments. While we hope that Steven's practice can cover things once ignited, we’re uncertain, and we know more money will likely be needed until this crisis is past.
For years we have supported those in need, doing fund-raisers for others, making donations to those in need, and giving free chiropractic to those who could not pay. Perhaps you are one of those people we’ve helped? Now we are reaching out to you, our community, for the support that we so deeply need.
I am feeling in good spirits, living one day at a time, and immensely grateful for the love surrounding me. Steven is my guardian angel, and I also feel such love from this beloved community. However, let me say it straight, we need support NOW! I’ll be very grateful for whatever you can send our way.
