My Name is Anthony Mallory. I am 25 years old. I'm from Merced CA. I have been working towards this year's olympic trials for 6 years now.
I am raising money so that I can commit to chasing this personal goal full time. I quit my job last week and I am 100% going for it even though I only have enough savings to get me through April. The olympic trials are in July. I know that if I want to give myself a real chance at this goal, I have to be 100% focused and committed. I need time to not only train with every ounce of energy I have, but also recover properly and eat right. Having a job interrupts training, eating, and sleeping patterns, I know this because I have been working to sustain this dream for the last 4 years. I believe the difference between me making it to the trials and not making it lies with my ability to train and recover properly without the distractions and labor of work.
With your donations I will be able to pay rent and buy those darn-expensive healthy foods for the last two months leading up to the olympic trials. Ill be able to afford to compete in high performance track venues to qualify for the olympic trails. My plane ticket to the trials, hotel room, rental car and nutrition expenses still are to be accounted for.
Since I officially have no income as of now the sooner you can donate, sooner you can keep my journey alive. This is a donate this month request.
This goal started off as an effort to bring hope to low income families like the one I grew up in. I want to show kids like me and my brother that we nobodies can become somebody with hard work! When my little brother was shot and killed in the street, it became a personal goal. I was off in a different state training for this goal when he was murderd, my goals took me away from him and now he is gone forever. Now it's personal. Im doing this for you and kids like you JoJo. You wont be forgotten. I wont be afraid to fail. I'll do what ever it takes! #93Tilinfinity.
If i make up the 3000$ to pay off my rent and travel expenses for this olympic trails, it will be because of your donation. This will revive my goal to become somebody and show ghetto kids(12-20yrs old) in the streets with no father figure, no role models, no future that they can make thier own future outside of gangs and drugs. I'll be a step closer to being able to tell them it's ok for people like us to leave that little town, its ok to dream. its ok to want more from this life and it is ok to GO GET IT!
Im afraid if i don't achieve this goal ill tell them, you better just play it safe, do what you know, chasing dreams just leaves people like us in bitter debt and despair.
My olympic journey started 6 years ago when I moved to north carolina to train specifically with an elite coach at Queens University of Charlotte. After only 2 years my coach moved to north carolina to coach professionally. Since i moved from california to North Carolina just to train with this established coach, I felt my purpose in NC was lost. So, I dropped out of college and moved to Colorado to train with professional athletes. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone but you see the level of determination and belief I have in my goal. The first two years went ok. I raced a personal best 3:47 metric mile but financially, I wasn't able to maintain the journey there and progress was at a platue. In 2015 I moved back to Sacramento where Sacramento Running Association agreed to sponsor me to compete. Now I am in the best position to qualify for the olympic trials with 4 months to train but only 2 months worth of rent money. If I don't come up with the money by april my olympic dream ends there and i have to get back to work to live life and forget about my olympic goal. Ive sacrificed too much to continue on sacrificing for this olympic goal with nothing to show for it but credit card debt, student loan debt, and a fast (but not fast enough) mile time. Its now or never.
