We have been working so hard to avoid this update, but we have not been given the info we needed and time and now our home is at risk.
I (Jen) have been making the house payments while trying to catch up still on all the things we fell behind on. With the destruction of our cars (both paid off, one just for 5 days!) and our roof from a massive hail storm, amongst numerous weird things that have attempted to pull the carpet out from under us, we are still making our payments this year. However we are significantly behind as during Jim’s cancer journey before he passed he had put the home into a deferred payment status due to the high expenses. I’ve worked hard to prove I can handle the payments (by the skin of my teeth, lol) but to get Jim off the loan so I can get a modification is proving to me very difficult. I’m not sure what to do but now I have to hire an attorney. You know, with my extra chump change. Haha
Anyway, if we can raise enough money to pay back the deferred payments, then it’s a none issue and we can take our time dealing with getting it handled without the pressure of foreclosure looming while I’m making these payments every month. The lump sum to catch us up is due just days before my 50th birthday at the end of July. So with the letter that just came in telling me this, I’m sucking it up and sharing here.
Meanwhile, 2 weeks ago, I was laid off from my job. The circumstances were not great, and my boss wishes to have me back, but they can’t do it. So while dealing with a mold issue, a roof that needs to be replaced, and saving the home in the first place, I’m also looking for a job. Ideally one from home, since my doctor is concerned about my health with the POTS diagnosis.
What I wouldn’t give for an old days hug from Jim. My best friend.

Update: a wonderful friend, father, brother, in-law and husband left us too soon, 2/10/24. Bless you, my love. We miss you.
Hi friends… it looks like it’s time to put this need out there. We finally went public with Dad/Jim’s stage 4 colorectal cancer diagnosis when we nearly lost him to septic shock in May of 2023, because living this story quietly was just not working anymore.
10 days after he escaped his hospital sentence he was laid off. He got some severance and had benefits for 3 months, both have now been expended.
He was granted disability which would just cover our mortgage payment. We still have no insurance and he has been hospitalized 3 more times, and is currently in the hospital. Mom/Jen has to focus on care over his final days and doesn’t have sufficient income to pay the bills.
Our goal with any raised funds is to repair and pay off the Pilot, which we only owe maybe approx 2k on. So close to $300 less coming out a month! We gotta have transportation here.
We also are behind on things and medical bills are piling up. So any funds will go to those things like car insurance and normal living expenses while we work on getting more regular funds coming in.
Well, that’s it in a nutshell.
