Who am I?
My name is Paul Standtke and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Anthony, his mother Rhonda, his daughter Kam, and the mother of their child Danielle. I played college basketball with Ant at the University of Michigan Dearborn from 14'-16'. We have been close friends since the summer of 2014. He was a brother to me and I am honored to still call him my friend. God has moved me to start this and my only wish is to provide some hope and love to the Barley family.

What happened?
On August 14, 2022, my son Anthony and I were out picking up a few items from the grocery store. We finished walking to the car, my son pulled off heading back to his apartment. All of a sudden he pulled over in front of an Urgent Care Center made one of his familiar sounds and laid his head back. I looked over at him, he didn’t seem to be breathing. I laid my hands on him and said Jesus NO!

My son was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy at the age of 16; as you can imagine it sounded like a death sentence to a teenager. He said Ma, I want to play basketball. So that’s what he did. He played for Thurston High School in Redford, MI; Colby Community College in Kansas where he earned an Associate Degree. Returning home that summer, he was awarded an athletic scholarship from the University of Michigan Dearborn basketball team; where he earned his Bachelor's in Psychology. He graduated in 2017 and moved to Greeley, Colorado where he lived with his partner Danielle and their daughter Kamila.

Back to August 14th. Anthony suffered cardiac arrest, no one knows how long he was gone, some say as long as 10 minutes - from the lack of oxygen to his brain he suffered from a TBI. The prognosis was not good. Weekly the Palliative Care team suggested I take him off of life support. Prayerfully, on September 23rd I flew my son back home to Michigan where he spent 3 1/2 months in a critical care recovery hospital. He was released from there on January 13, 2023; free from machines only having a feeding tube.

Anthony is stable; however, the brain injury has caused his recovery to be what I refer to as a journey mental and physically. He is currently receiving in-home occupational and physical therapy twice a week - which is not nearly enough for his physical condition; however, it beats nothing - so I am indeed grateful. We are waiting for a wheelchair - it took 4 months for an evaluation, and we were told it can take another 3 months to build the chair after the impressions are made of his body, the appointment for that procedure has not been made to date; possibly leaving him bed bound much longer than we anticipated.

Monthly expenses are approximately $1,100.00 not including any support to Dani and Kami. Medical supplies: Bed pads, condom catheters, Medihoney, Calmoseptine, gloves, disposable wipes, ProSource protein, barrier wipes, oral care swabs, pill crush pouches - off the top of my head. He’s on 8 different medications the Corlanor alone is over $800.00 for sixty pills, thank God! He has state insurance currently - we have been paying a lot out of pocket with his health coverage.

What will happen with donations?
100% of all donations will be directly transferred via Bank ACH to Rhonda Barley (Ant's Mother) to the following:

A portion will go to Anthony's Mother for everyday living expenses at home. (Medication, medical equipment, etc)

A portion will go to his daughter Kamila and her mother Danielle. (Clothes, school supplies, etc)

Message from Rhonda Barley (Anthony's mother):
A mother’s love is selfless and sometimes reckless as it relates to self-care. You’ll have to remind yourself to eat - you don’t care about saving any money - you’re grateful to take whatever you have large or small to provide care for your child, Anthony aka Kordale. The very best son and I’m not ashamed to say he was my confidant - he can give the best advice. He spent his time in Colorado, giving himself to his family and those he served in the community as a mentor, coach, friend, and case manager for Child Protective Service. I don’t know who will be led to give support to Anthony - I just want to say thank you.

Message from Danielle Rodriguez (The mother of Anthony's daughter Kamila):
Kami misses her video game partner, her best friend, and her daddy, Anthony. She’s been a trooper navigating lots of “firsts” without him… first day of kindergarten, first concert, first t-ball game etc.. but she prays every day that her daddy can come home soon. She would be forever grateful for any support from family and friends.
