I am raising funds for my brother, Sean, as he faces stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

Sean Griewahn, a man known by many names. At home he is known as Dad. To his grandchildren, he is the world's best PopPop. Around the firehouse, you may hear him called Griswald, or even Papa Sean by younger members.. Over the years, he has also answered to Lefty, Lieutenant, Chief, Councilman, Uncle, Brother, Son and Friend. But no matter what title you call him, Sean Griewahn has always been a man defined by one thing: his dedication to the people he loves and the communities he serves.

Sean, age 54, has spent his life caring for others. A Swanton native and current Delta resident, Sean and his wife, Jennifer, have built a family of six children, and 14 grandchildren (with two more on the way). His family has always been one of his greatest passions.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, Sean dedicated his career to Emergency Services and Healthcare. Sean, a Youngstown State University Alumni, earned his Paramedic License in 1997, and went on to obtain additional certifications as a firefighter, instructor and fire inspector. Throughout his career, Sean has served on numerous fire departments and EMS agencies, including Columbiana EMS, Delta Fire, Put-in-Bay EMS and Mercy Lifestar. Sean joined Swanton Fire and Rescue in 2001 and retired as Assistant Chief. After a brief time away, he returned full-time and once again rose through the ranks to Lieutenant, a position he continues to hold.

His dedication to caring for others extends beyond the fire service. In 2018, Sean became a Registered Nurse through Northwest State and later completed his BSN from Western Governor’s University. As an RN, Sean has worked in Emergency Departments including Wood County ER, Mercy Perrysburg ER and Henry County ER.

In 2021, Sean once again answered the call to serve when he enlisted in the Ohio Naval Militia. He was later promoted to Ensign and placed in charge of the medical division. Today, he holds the rank of Lieutenant and serves as the Operations Officer. He is also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and serves as a Councilman for the Village of Delta.

In June 2026, Sean’s life changed drastically. After going to the emergency room with severe pain that was confirmed to be multiple blood clots, the doctors unexpectedly discovered stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer that had spread to his liver and pelvis.

Sean has undergone several rounds of chemotherapy and five rounds of radiation at Mercy Health - Perrysburg Hospital and continues his fight surrounded by his family, friends and community.

For more than 30 years, Sean has answered the call when others needed help. Now, it’s our turn to answer the call for Sean.

Funds raised through this benefit will help Sean and Jennifer with household and daily living expenses while also allowing Jennifer the ability to take time away from work to be by Sean’s side throughout his treatment and cancer journey.
