Annette's Angels

Dear Annette's Angels ,

Annette Love Berry is a 45 year old wife and mother of 7 wonderful kids; 3 grown boys, 3 step-sons and 7 year-old Cara.

For years, Annette has been dealing with multiple serious autoimmune conditions, including Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (eventually requiring removal of her thyroid), and Meniere's Disease (which attacks the inner ear) requiring the insertion of a shunt into her skull. Last year she experienced an episode of severe pneumonia (43 days in the hospital). This was later determined to have been a pulmonary hemorrhage due to an autoimmune response, which also affected her Central Nervous System. These symptoms are believed to be from an antibody Annette is producing, but which has not yet been identified by medical science. She had a surgical lung biopsy which revealed extensive lung damage (emphysema, but she has never smoked), and she is now oxygen dependent and completely disabled.

She has been hospitalized 17 times in 14 months, as a result of both the underlying condition, and the chemotherapy and immunosuppressive drugs they have been trying to treat her with. Last month, due to the rarity of this condition and the complexity of treatment, she has been referred to the Cleveland Clinic, a premier heart and vascular institute in Ohio. This will be a very hopeful, yet expensive, endeavor to find the cause and cure for Annette's condition.

Annette remains strong and faithful, putting her trust in God!

Annette and her husband, John, who has taken unpaid FMLA to care for her and their family, have experienced extreme financial burden because of the overwhelming number of hospitalizations, medications and loss of income due to their inability to work. They are both very generous and giving people, and would give the shirts off their backs for anyone.
