Andy's Brain Tumour
Donation protected
Hi, my name's Andy and I'm a 32 year old Royal Marines Commando. Thank you in advance for reading my story and helping out in any way you can.
7 months ago I was diagnosed with a life limiting brain tumour. There were no warning signs, I woke up on the 6 July 2014 paralysed, unable to breathe, unable to talk.
I have a grade 2 oligodendroglioma on my left frontal and pariatal lobe, also entering my limbic centre. This means that as well as suffering from seizures I also have speech and word finding, motor, sensory and emotional response difficulties.
From day one me and my wife have fought this with a PMA , refusing to be a statistic and stacks of dark humour. However, behind the scenes, although we've stayed strong, it's been a rough road.
I've had to learn to talk again, to walk without the help of somone or a stick. So many daily tasks became mountains we've had to conquer. We've had to deal with the personality changes, the trials and effects of the drugs and all the emotional and physical frustration that comes with post surgery rahabilitation. We are now 7 months post diagnosis and whilst we now have a good idea of the rehabilitation we need to continue, our future is unclear.
So, why have I set up this Go fund me page? Well, I came across it and once I'd taken my ego out of the equation I realised this could really help our situation.
After nearly 10 years in the Royal Marines I am going to lose my job. Whilst the Royal Marines have provided fantastic rehabilitation and support, that support doesn't extend to financial security. I may or may not get a small pension upon leaving, as it is expected I will only be capable of part time work. This pension will be roughly £400 a month (taxable) IF I am awarded it.
We have a small deposit set aside to help buy a house as we currently live in military accommodation. We need our own house to give us that stability so we don't want to have to use that money to support us when I lose my job. My medical board who decide when I'm discharged could be as early as July this year.
Since Getting married a year ago we have cleared almost £10,000 of debt, however we still have £15,000 left. If we could raise enough money to clear the remaining debt, or even something to help reduce it. That would mean we would be able to save a small amount to help transition to a civilian life.
Once I leave the military I will be restricted in the type of employment I can have so we'll need a bit of money to cover us whilst I try and find a flexible job that can accommodate my needs.
We're just asking for some help £1.00 - £1,000 - £15,000. Every little bit would help.
Thanks for reading this, please help us by donating or sharing this or both :) every bit of support is appreciated.
Thanks
Andy and Nadia
