Help Andy and Brenda start their Hurricane Helene Recovery

On September 28, 2024, Andy and Brenda were supposed to be celebrating their marriage. Instead of a weekend of celebration with friends and family by their favorite creek, they were offered a helicopter rescue. After accepting some help to cross the creek (instead of a flight to an unknown destination) they could finally see the full devastation that Hurricane Helene caused in their neighborhood in Old Fort, NC.

While Andy and Brenda are physically okay, the road ahead is going to be difficult to navigate. Because the location is remote and the road to get there no longer exists, FEMA inspectors were not able to access the property, and are therefore requiring them to hire their own assessors. Additionally, the battle with insurance companies has already begun, and they will require help to navigate those waters successfully.

Even with FEMA and Insurance payments, their home is on a private road which no longer exists. As all of their neighbors' properties were also destroyed - many with no flood insurance - the cost to establish roadway access may fall entirely on Andy and Brenda.

This fundraiser is to help them get started. They will hire structural engineers to assess their home and see if immediate repairs can be made to help it remain standing, and to provide assessments to FEMA and the insurance companies. This funding will also help them hire the help they need to establish a plan for recovery, so they can one day return to their peaceful mountain home.

While there are many in need after the recent storms, I encourage you to help this couple get started on recovery. Consider it a wedding gift!
