Hi all,
I have been accepted into the University of Glasgow’s School of Veterinary Medicine in Scotland! As I'm sure you know, many post-graduate degrees are often expensive, and veterinary school is no exception. Furthermore, scholarships and grants are much harder to come by and often have rigorous and specific eligibilities that I very rarely qualify for. While I will continue to look for funding from official sources, I am now asking for your help in contributing to my education.
While obtaining my Bachelors in Animal Science from Cal Poly, I had the opportunity to work in various industries within the animal science field, which ultimately propelled me to pursue veterinary medicine. Some of my most impactful experiences include: interning as a member of the elephant care team at the Oakland zoo, conducting nutrition research on tortoises, working as a veterinary technician at an exotic and small animal hospital, as well as an ambulatory practice for horses in the bay area.
Here is a breakdown of my expenses for the first year of the veterinary program:
Tuition: $42,700
Living Expenses: $17,300
Total expenses for the first year: $60,000
Total 5-year program expenses: $300,000
While working and taking out loans will reduce these fees, I will need your help to raise this money by September 2021.
After veterinary school, I plan to help alleviate the stray dog and cat crisis in under-served communities around the globe. As a child traveling to Mexico with my father, I witnessed a desperate need for animal care and infrastructure in developing countries. The illnesses and starvation among these animals elucidated the stark difference in their treatment in developed and developing countries. Fostering global equity in veterinary medicine has become my most significant professional motivation, and I wish to serve these neglected animals in places where humane care is less accessible.
As the great Grammy award-winning musician, Rihanna, says "If you gotta dollar, you gotta dollar to spare". This quote means a great deal to me and I repeat it often. The sentiment rings true here. Any donation possible will help dampen the severe financial stress of veterinary school, whether it be $5 or $5,000. Thank you so much for your time, love, and continued support.
