Help Amyx's Rebuild After Flood

Donation protected
On April 29th, heavy rains in Southern Missouri caused unprecedented flooding.  My parents, Kim and Nancy Amyx, live on Spring Creek in Ozark County. They were forced to evacuate their house after the waters had risen up to the porch supports. They ended up with water in their house at least four feet high. This level was 8-10 feet above the flood of 1993.

They are now without any transportation, and will have to take the house down to the studs to see if it can be salvaged.

They were unable to purchase flood insurance because Ozark County Missouri does not participate in the NFIP, the National Flood Insurance Program, created in 1968 to enable property owners in participating communities to purchase insurance protection, administered by the government, against losses from flooding.

"NON-PARTICIPATING COMMUNITY (This Additional Consideration applies to all properties in the
LOMA DETERMINATION DOCUMENT (REMOVAL))
This community is currently either suspended from or not participating in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP);  therefore, flood insurance is not available." (excerpted from the FEMA document regarding eligibility for NFIP coverage)

Despite having excellent insurance coverage on their property for all other eventualities, they are not covered for damage caused by flooding, and will be uneligible for several portions of disaster relief from FEMA due to living in a county that doesn't participate in NFIP.

The Amyx's are facing a tremendous hardship because of Ozark County's decision not to participate in the Federal program.  In order to be able to live in their house again, they will have to fund all of the clean up, rebuilding, and replacement themselves.

Here are some examples of what they will need to do:

--The family will need to clean out and dispose of their ruined belongs.
--Remove all wall and floor materials, fixtures, and cabinets.
--A professional-level cleaning of the house structure to remove health concern items from the mud that was left.
--Rebuild the house after the frame and foundation has been deemed safe.
--Rebuild the fireplace and chimney
--Repair the wellhouse and pump.
--Replace all appliances, kitchen and bathroom fixtures, furniture, clothing, kitchen and bathroom items.
--Replace personal items like clothing, shoes, TV, stereo, etc.
--Install new water heater, AC unit, and heating unit.
--Repair gas lines, plumbing, and electrical systems.
--Hire a heavy equipment company to clear the debris, rebuild the driveway, level and grade the area, and fill around the foundations.
--Counter the erosion of the soil that was left because all trees within 50 feet of Spring Creek were uprooted throughout the entire property.

The amount of rebuilding will likely be $75,000 or more. Whatever we can collect for them will help lessen the burden of this catastrophe.

Kim and Nancy have an amazing group of family and friends that are helping them with a room to stay in, loaning them a vehicle, and working on the devastation left over after the flood.  If you are able to help in a way other than financial, please contact Kim Amyx on his Facebook account.

Thank you for your consideration,
