********Update: July, 8th, 2018********
How Everything Started
A few months after Amy (my big sister) passed away in 2012 on her 30th birthday from a random asthma attack, I became incredibly depressed and one night my Father sat with me through my tears and told me that by "being the light to others" and helping them, my heart would heal. At the time, his incredible God given wisdom planted a tiny seed of hope in my heart and I wouldn't truly understand the gravity of what he meant until July 1st of 2015 when God spoke directly to my heart by saying. "Be Fearless, Strong and Courageous" this lead me to start the Celebration of Life Fundraiser in Amy's name in hopes that we could donate to nonprofits and families that needed it. My original goal was set at $500 and with everyone's donations (with me and my husband included) over the entire month of July, we raised a grand total of $2,701! All of the money benefited 2 non-profits and 3 families. Last year, we set a goal of $5,000, hit it and with a week and a half left increased it to $7,500. In 2016, we raised a grand total ended up being $5,200 and we were able to help 3 families and 6 organizations!!! This last year we were able to raise, on the 5th anniversary of Amy accepting her invitation to spend eternity with God in heaven from a random asthma attack on her 30th birthday. We're so thankful to have had exactly 30 years with her and even though the loss in our hearts will never go away. I'm grateful for the opportunity to honor my older sister's life by giving back to organization's and families that have been chosen by friends, family and a few I strongly believe in.
This Year:
2018 will be the 4th Annual Celebration of Life Fundraiser in Amy's name and after 2017, which was the 5th year anniversary, we were incredibly thankful to hit a grand total of $3,395 but this year we’ve decided (and after A LOT of prayer) to try and hit a goal of $10,000!
In loving memory and to honor Amy's life, from July 1st to July 31st at 11:59pm we'll be accepting donations through this fundraising site. We actually have been using Crowdrise the last two years and after seeing an increase in the amount that the site takes from each donation (in addition to the normal taxes, etc) We’ve decided to go with a new organization that gives YOU, the donor an easier way to donate, while also insuring your money is going to the organizations and families that will benefit from the grand total received this year. While we've had huge successes the last 2 years with Crowdrise, I wasn't willing to have fee's taken from any of our donors and the generous gift's given in honor of Amy's Life. This is all about paying it forward and I want everyone to know that both my husband and I also donate every year to Amy's Celebration of Life Fundraiser. Together and with your support, we're going to help so many people and dogs too! I'm so thankful to look forward to the month of July. In particular the 28th, rather than the feeling of dread like the first 2 years the 28th would come around. This year we have two different pages to donate and it’s totally up to YOU, which you would rather donate too.
Please help me honor my big sister and her life by sharing this fundraiser or donating! There is no amount too little to donate and both URL’s will be updated on both pages.
Last Year:
The following list is where all funds received were donated on August 1st, 2017:
1. Grapevine Shield Foundation:
The Grapevine Shield Foundation was established in 2008 by members of the Grapevine Heritage Lions Club to assist family members of Grapevine Police Officers and Firefighters who are injured or killed in the line of duty. A board of directors manages the “Foundation”, and all funds donated will be used to the benefit of police officers' and firefighters' families in a time of need. The "Foundation" has no paid employees and the directors do not receive any compensation.
Each and every day, the citizens and businesses of Grapevine enjoy the security provided by the work of our police and firefighters. Most of the time, we do not give it a second thought, but we know that if we need them, they will be there. They go to work each day ready to put their safety and lives on the line for us. When tragedy strikes any of us, they are there to help. The Grapevine Shield Foundation wants to provide security for them in return.
2. Texas Scottish Rite Hospital:
TSRHC, is a world leader in the treatment of pediatric orthopedic conditions. We strive to improve the care of children worldwide through innovative research and teaching programs, training physicians from around the world. TSRHC treats children with orthopedic conditions, such as scoliosis, clubfoot, hand disorders, hip disorders and limb length differences, as well as sports injuries, and certain related neurological disorders and learning disorders, such as dyslexia.
As a leading pediatric orthopedic center, the hospital has treated more than 250,000 children since its inception, with more than 35,000 clinic visits each year. All of our physicians hold appointments at UT Southwestern and are renowned for extraordinary patient care, outstanding research and teaching of medical students, residents and fellows from around the world. The hospital takes a multidisciplinary approach to care, tailoring treatment to the individual needs of each child and family. Admission is open to children from birth up to 18 years of age. TSRHC, the only Scottish Rite hospital in the world, is not affiliated with the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
3. Second Mile Haiti:
"Our mission is to care for the nutritional needs Haiti's most fragile children, while empowering their caregivers through education and small business opportunities." In response to this problem, Second Mile Haiti works with families who are most at risk of turning to orphanages. We believe that by using a comprehensive approach to treating childhood malnutrition, we can break the cycle of under-nutrition in Haiti, and keep families together.
4. 1st CivDiv Warriors Foundation:
This INCREDIBLE non-profit 501(c)(3) organization is founded by veterans and run by veterans. 100% of all proceeds go directly to their mission. Period."We created this organization out of what we would have liked to participate in ourselves. As Marine Corps and OIF vets, we all missed the moto environment and brotherhood. And we've struggled with trying to navigate education and medical benefits, as well as what we really wanted to do as civilians, and the job searches involved." "1st CivDiv Warriors Foundation's goal is to replicate the kind of environment we all miss, but with a new purpose, and people involved that can make a difference for veterans like us. The transition can be hard, and we want to help bridge the gap."
5. America's Fund / Semper Fi Fund:
The Semper Fi Fund provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post-9/11 wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their families, ensuring that they have the resources they need during their recovery and transition back to their communities. Since establishing the Semper Fi Fund in 2004, we’ve issued 142,000 grants, totaling more than $153 million in assistance to over 19,000 of our heroes and their families.
The Semper Fi Fund was created by a group of Marine Corps spouses in early 2004, and those same women run the Fund today alongside other spouses from all service branches and retired service members, all of whom intimately know the needs of our military families. We have been by our injured and ill service members' sides from day one, helping them as they navigate lengthy recoveries and rejoin their communities. The Semper Fi Fund provides - Financial, emotional, and tiered support for our injured/ill service members and their families through the following programs: Family Support, Adaptive Housing, Adaptive Transportation, Specialized Equipment, Education and Career Transitioning, Sports programs, and more. Their focus is helping Qualifying post-9/11 Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Coast Guardsmen, and reservists with amputations, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury (TBI), severe post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), burns, blindness, other physical injuries, or those suffering from life-threatening illnesses. We also help spouses and children of active duty service members who face a life-threatening illness or injury.
6. Texas GSP Rescue:
Texas GSP Rescue, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that places abandoned GSPs in safe, loving homes. We are not a shelter and have no kennel facility. Any dog taken in by our program must have a foster home for the duration of the dog's stay with us before placement in a permanent adoptive home. We are 100% reliant upon volunteers, fosters and donors to save dogs. As space permits, we cover the entire state of Texas and are the only GSP Rescue working in Texas. As space permits, we also do our best to cover intake in Louisiana as there is no GSP rescue in that state.
Note from the Gilbreath's - "When we first fostered Hoover and found out the second day he had heart-worms, the organization PAID for the full treatment to help save Hoover's life! (No question, just general procedure) They paid thousands into taking care of Hoovers treatments and shots while being fostered. In September of 2015, if for some reason he shows up heart worm positive again, they will pay for another round of treatment! (Yes, even though he's been adopted!) They're an incredible organization and I'm thankful to be able to give back to them!"
Texas GSP Rescue began in November of 2000 with the work of Diane Hagler out of Denton, Texas. As Diane began building resources, the German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue of North Texas incorporated and was recognized as a 501(c)(3) in April of 2003. Since that time the Rescue has continued to grow with adopters, volunteers and supporters. We consider ourselves fortunate to have found as many GSP lovers in Texas as we have!
7. Molly's Fund - Fighting Lupus:
Molly's Fund - Finding Lupus is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to EDUCATE the public and to INFORM the medical community about lupus, to ADVOCATE for earlier life-saving diagnosis, to SUPPORT people living with lupus and to COLLABORATE with the government and foundations to fund research toward a cure. Molly’s Fund - Fighting Lupus has set a number of goals to improve advocacy for and outreach to lupus patients.
• Raise funds to fight lupus through corporate and individual donations, grants, and fundraising events.

• Create safe, supportive local communities where lupus patients can share information, refer service providers, and provide one another support.
• Connect lupus patients through a virtual community that includes our bi-monthly lupus blog, e-news updates, active social network sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, You Tube, and LinkedIn, as well as our lupus referral network.
• In an effort to be better advocates for the lupus community, we help those living with lupus through our online presence.
• Raise lupus’s profile locally and nationally by developing symposiums focusing on the needs of those living with lupus. These symposiums are available on our website.
• Partnering with the healthcare community to spur positive changes for those living with lupus.
8. PKD Foundation:
The following is written by Megan Montelongo, "Many of you know that my family has a history of PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) and every year we raise awareness and funds for research to find a CURE! There are so many unknowns still with this disease, so the research is SO important. My Dad will is currently on dialysis and will need a kidney transplant. This disease has claimed the life of my grandfather and aunt, and we've had more transplants than I can keep up with. I have cousins who have already been diagnosed and the odds are (50/50) that my brother or myself will someday be dealing with this disease as well. It's hereditary, there's no cure, and that is just unacceptable! We have to do something!" In Honor and Support of the Montelongo Family and like Megan, I also have family that have been affected by PKD and stand in full support with their family to help fund an incredible organization.
About: We are on a mission to end PKD. To do that, we fund and advocate for research and better health care, we support the PKD community so you can live your best life and we raise awareness to move closer to treatments and a cure.
9. Victory Therapy Center:
Mission Statement: To care for the physical, mental, and emotional needs of children, adults, Veterans, and their families through the healing power of horses. Victory Therapy Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that provides services to improve the quality of life of individuals through equine therapy. Founded by Doug and Vivian Newton as Rocky Top Therapy Center in 1992, Victory offers the benefits of equine-assisted therapy and psychotherapy for individuals with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities and challenges. For many years the operation was located on a working ranch in Keller, Texas. In 2013, an opportunity was identified to relocate to the town of Roanoke and build a new facility to expand its service offerings and have an even greater impact on the lives of its clients and their families.
10. Hope Farm, Inc.:
HOPE Farm is a leadership program guiding at-risk boys to become Christ-centered men of integrity. Here at HOPE Farm, we measure success in demonstrable behavioral change. HOPE Farm works directly with parents and teachers to create accountability and a “life plan” for each boy. The plan is charted through specialized behavioral accountability folders and regular communication among each educator, HOPE Farm Staff member and caregiver in the life of the child. NEED: Approximately 140,000 children in Tarrant County do not live with their father (Tarrant County Public Health, 2004). Female-headed households are twice as likely as male-headed households to be in poverty and over five times as likely as married couple households (Tarrant County Public Health, 2004).CONSEQUENCES: Fatherless children are at greater risk of drug and alcohol abuse, mental illness, suicide, poor educational performance, teen pregnancy, and criminality. (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, National Center for Health Statistics, Survey on Child Health, Washington, DC, 1993) “The economic consequences of a [father’s] absence are often accompanied by psychological consequences, which include higher-than-average levels of youth suicide, low intellectual and education performance, and higher-than-average rates.”
Please share, donate if you can and any little bit helps! I can't tell you how much I've prayed over this year's fundraiser and I know we're going to change so many lives!!
