Hi! My name is Amani Arellano and I am from Paso Robles. I am currently in middle school at Almond Acres Charter Academy and have been nominated and invited to represent my school and community at the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. this summer.
I am so excited to hopefully get to join other motivated students and potential young leaders from around the country for this once in a lifetime opportunity. I would be attending the conference from July 23rd - July 28th, 2017. There is a full 6-day itinerary lined up including leadership focus groups and workshops, influential Keynote speakers, and many amazing historical site visits including Harpers Ferry, the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials. We will also have an opportunity to visit the U.S. Capital and have a private meeting with members of Congress and a sleepover at the Maryland Science Center!
I am especially excited about the focus of this experience which is called “Voices of Change”. This is a social project where I will get to work with my peers to learn how to apply problem solving strategies and take action in making a positive change on issues we are facing in our schools and communities today. I am very passionate about the topic of bullying and want to do my part to make it end! I feel that I will gain the skills and resources I need to do my part and start a wave of change.
Unfortunately, my school does not have funds to send me and my participation in this program depends on whether or not I can raise at least $3,000 to be able to go. I will not be able to do this without the help and support of my family, friends, and local business sponsorships in my community. Tuition is $2,395 which includes room, board, and site visits and the rest will go toward travel expenses. My first step is to raise $499 as soon as possible so I can get enrolled before all of the spots are filled, Starting on May 1st I will be able to make 4 monthly payments as I raise the funds to make those payments. I would be willing to work for your sponsorship in any way I can (organizing, filing, babysitting, etc.).
I am so thankful to anyone who can sponsor me in any amount, big or small, and I cannot wait to come back home so I can apply everything I will learn to make a positive difference in my school and community!
Love,
Amani ♥
