This summer, four tiny kittens showed up in my backyard: scared, stinky, scruffy, and full of potential. Over the past few weeks, I’ve poured time, care, and resources into getting them healthy, vaccinated, and ready for adoption - by myself during the first 2 weeks of a brand new job.

Now, we’re in the final stretch: I've borrowed $3,350 to cover vet bills, medicine, and transportation so each kitten can land safely in their forever home. I need to pay this off Mid-October.

How it started: My wonderful neighbor mentioned a small group of kittens hanging around our backyard. He’d been feeding them for weeks, and when I finally met them, I realized right away they were friendly, curious, and clearly just waiting for a chance.

Their dad showed up too: sweet, gentle, but with a huge gash on his leg that had left him barely able to walk. That was my sign to step in. I trapped him, and took him for emergency care. He was neutered, stitched up, vaccinated, and has now fully recovered, living his best outdoor life as part of a cared-for colony. ❤️

The kittens’ situation was more complicated. I trapped four right away: Obie, AG, Slinky, and Wilma. We began the long process of vet visits and medications. The fifth kitten turned out to be too feral to socialize, so he’ll live out his life safely as a backyard colony cat with regular food and shelter.

The four in my care arrived with severe ear mites, roundworm, and a parasite infection, all common in outdoor kittens. Over the past month, they’ve received:

1. Spay/neuter surgeries
2. First vaccinations & boosters
3. Multiple rounds of parasite and infection treatments
4. Socialization, love, and lots of snuggles

They’re now healthy, playful, and ready for their forever homes, but the costs have added up fast and it's expensive. I'm not part of an organization, I just wanted to take care of my community, but I need a little help. In the middle or this experience, I also took the initiative to become TNR certified so I can continue my work discounted.
