On May 5th, I somehow went to sleep safely in my bed and woke up on my couch unable to move. I was aspirating until my dog rolled me over, thank God. I'm not sure if it was luck or if he knew what he was doing, but I know he's a very special dog because he's done other things to save people in crisis. Angels come in fur if you ask me.

So after that, I laid there unable to move all day. The only person who found me refused to call 911 for some reason (guilty conscience maybe?). Finally, my mom decided to come see why I wasn't responding to her texts or calls, and she called 911. I was thrown in the ambulance with no backboard or neck brace, just a very rude EMT and a traumatizing ride to a joke of a hospital. I told them my neck had popped when I was moved, but they decided to give me Narcan instead of a neck brace still. I told them I had to use the bathroom, and they said to sober up and go, just ignoring the fact that I could not feel any of my limbs. They told me I was moving them because I was having involuntary muscle spasms.

I was in and out of consciousness for the next 12 hours while they did absolutely nothing to secure my neck or treat the problem. Eventually, they sent me to a trauma center, and I was rushed into emergency surgery on my neck. Nobody ever braced my neck until I got to the hospital. I'm trying to hold them accountable and have lawyers looking into it, but in the meantime, I'm now paralyzed and pretty much lost everything. I'm waiting for Medicaid and SSI to help, but I'm told they can take up to a year.

The first 6 months after this type of injury is crucial in regaining the neural pathways if I'm going to walk again. I desperately need therapy now. I started making progress when working with a good therapist at the hospital, but then I was discharged. Since then, all I can do is stretch exercises with my mom, which aren't enough. I need help with so many things right now; I can barely roll over on my own. Please, if you have anything to contribute or just prayers and sharing, I need all the help I can get.
