Amanda Road to Recovery

Donation protected
As many of you know, Amanda and I walked into the ER Monday June the 5th. We went to the hospital for a persistent migraine headache that progressed to a tingling sensation in her feet. Shortly their after, she was taken to have various MRI scans. The doctors ordered a full body scan taking almost 5 hours. She was admitted to the hospital & it was clear that her symptoms had gotten progressively worse. She had lost all sensation and mobility in her lower legs. She was scheduled for a spinal tap in the morning.  While waiting to be taken for the scan, she started to loose feeling in her right arm. Following the scan, we were moved to another room where the nurses tried to get her situated and relaxed.

Things really started to get scary from there. She was having trouble breathing and was telling us that she was light on air. That’s when the nurse called for help and Curtis (AKA get shit done guy) showed up and went to work. He was able to get her relaxed to an extent but she needed to go to the ICU and she needed to go now!

At this point, Amanda is in ICU, intubated and experiencing demyelination of her central spinal cord. She lost all sensation of her legs and arms. Her muscles are getting stronger and she is fighting her way to get out of here. She has received 5 treatments of some serious steroids to help reduce the inflammation in her spine. She is also receiving plasmapheresis every other day for 2 weeks. She is on treatment 3-5 that could be extended to 7. It all depends on how everything goes.

With all that said, we unfortunately will need to postpone the wedding and all plans we had for the end of the month. We need Amanda to get healthy and back to her old self! If you guys know her like I do, once she puts her mind to something she is going to do it. It’s just going to take time.

We also have a caringbridge website set for updates and progress.  https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/amandathorson
