Dear friends and family,
My name is Chris, a longtime friend of Alyssa's and her current apartment-mate!
Many of you know that Alyssa has a rare disease called Myasthenia Gravis (MG). She discovered her disease in 2011 (while in grad school) and spent many long and painful days at Keck Medical Center of USC. She underwent chemo, radiation and then open-heart surgery in March of 2012 to have her thymus gland and cancerous tumor removed from its intrustive position near her heart. Thankfully, the surgery produced WONDERFUL results and Alyssa is since cancer free and in remission from MG. (YAY!)
Despite her marvelous physical recovery, Alyssa's medical bills have not been so marvelous. We all know that health insurance only goes so far, and with her hospital stays and treatments spreading across two different calendar years, the cost has been overbearing and has greatly impacted her credit score (and not in a good way). Thankfully, USC has forgiven some of the debt, but she still owes roughly $11,000. Alyssa was a student when diagnosed and is currently interning to get her 3000 hours in before she can become licensed as an MFT. As you might guess, intern pay is rough (!) and is barefuly enough to make ends meet.
Please consider joining me to help our lovely friend Alyssa raise the funds she needs over the next 30 - 60 days to pay off her medical bills once and for all. What an amazing wedding gift it would be if she could get married to her fiance Nick [medical] debt free and with an adequate credit score.
We love Alyssa and we're so happy that she's finally given her friends permission to create a GoFundMe page for her. :P There is no pressure to support - but for those that do, we are so appreciative! You are helping a friend in great need by lifting a difficult burden. [Please spread the word!]
Many many thanks!
Love,
Chris and friends
*Please also kindly share this post if you do choose to support so we can spread the word!
**I've listed the financial goal as $12,000 due to the 8% fee Alyssa will incur when withdrawing the funds. If we hit the $12,000 goal, Alyssa will receive enough to cover her bills after the fee.
***If we exceed our goal and you haven't had the chance to donate, never fear! Alyssa has smaller ongoing annual medical costs that you can donate toward. Please feel free to contribute.
