TITLE: The Doctors Said A Mystery, Unique, Rare - Our MOM
Go Fund Me Supporters,
Our mom was admitted to the hospital on 3/31/2017 with abdominal pain and Vomiting (not having kept anything down for 5 days prior). It was a battle just to get her there because she is all about being there for others. While at the hospital the doctors said she was a 'mystery, unique', test after test they just couldn't figure out what was wrong and everything she put in (even IV fluids) kept coming back up which resulted in pneumonia (due to aspiration). It was finally determined after 17 days that the only way to figure out this unique mystery was to go in and do exploratory surgery. The goal was to remove an abnormal obstruction at the lower intestine or do a stomach bypass so that she can return to eating and living normally. Although the bypass was successful, the abnormal obstruction was wrapped around vital Organs, unable to be removed and biopsies were warranted.
This is a woman that has never been to a hospital except for giving birth or to visit and care for others but after 27 days of being a mystery and unique to the team of gastrointestinal doctors, biopsies from the surgery revealed a diagnosis of terminal Stage 3 & 4 stomach and gallbladder cancer, they are giving her 2 months with no treatment, possibly more with treatment . The doctors have shared that it is rare for cancer to have originated in 2 locations but that is the case with my mom. From the research my sister and I have done stomach cancer in itself is rare and goes undetected until it has advanced and you end up in the doctor’s office or hospital for something else and then they find it (like the case with my mom).
This word CANCER is a new word for us on a personal level. Although we have always supported different cancer organizations every year we never thought we would be on 'that side' - no one ever does. The shock is turning into questioning, anger, and emotions that we are struggling to understand and accept BUT forced to for our mom's sake.
Our mom, as so many other moms, has given tirelessly, always to others. Our mom has opened her home to foreign exchange students that she accepts no matter their circumstance, she is always there for her daughters and her grandchildren, she volunteers for the school that I work at (sharpens testing pencils, counts medals, cuts, sorts, helps at events and so much more) always reminding me, "When are you going to bring home pencils for sharpening?" - lol. She is a GIVER! and now...she is struggling with a diagnosis that says she needs to be a taker. A taker of others HELP and SUPPORT.
We are in the process of seeking a 2nd opinion and looking into options for treatment. In 2 weeks Mid MAY (after healing from the surgery) she will be following up with doctors to decide on treatments. Although they say that the treatment will be very intense, as is with human nature we 'fight for life' and that is what my mom has said she intends to do. The treatment involved if she is strong enough to withstand the prescribed treatment per the current oncologist is 4 sessions of 4 days consecutively of chemo every 4 weeks after the 4the session they will test and see where the cancer is. So in September, we shall see if we are approved for surgery for the removal of the smaller(God Willing) tumor. Thus increasing our chances of living a much longer life.
We are reaching out to Go Fund Me Supports because as our luck has it, we found out that my mom let her health insurance go without telling anyone (she misunderstood direction from another healthcare provider she was trying to switch to). As a result, my sister and I are applying to everything we are being told to try, this being one.
If you are able to support my mom in any way, even if it is a success story we would love and welcome any support.
We thank you for your time in reading our story and we hope to follow up with our own success story.
Humbly,
Her daughters, Patty and Cristina
We welcome any support. and of course, PRAYERS are of utmost importance.
Mark 11:24 - Therefore I say unto you, What things so ever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them].
