Hello, Families and Friends of Alkavain Academy Students!

My name is Gwendolyn and I am mom to one of these awesome kids. I have created this GoFundMe campaign to help these bright-minded, creative and outgoing students take the stage at Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in Iowa.

They've worked hard to reach this level of competition, having successfully advanced from regional to state to worlds.

Now, they need our help to fund their trip to Iowa. This is a last-minute trip (May 25-28) that requires airfare, rental car, accommodations, food, and event-related fees. The trip's estimated total cost is just over $7K. We're setting the goal at $10K to help cover any unforeseen expenses and maybe bring a little extra fun to the trip for the group.

A little background on Odyssey of the Minds.

Odyssey of the Mind (OM™) teaches students how to develop and use their natural creativity to become problem-solvers. Imagine being faced with a problem that requires an original solution. It can be frightening. Now imagine not being afraid to solve that problem – that is what OM members learn. This skill and self-confidence will carry over to all areas of their lives. OM brings the classroom to life as students apply what they learn and combine it with their interests and passions to solve our unique open-ended problems. OM also emphasizes teamwork, budgeting, time management, public speaking, and so much more. This international program is designed to help students at all learning levels grow as individual learners, grow as team members, and to reach their full potential.
