Dear Friends & Family,
Our dearest friend Alfonso Granville recently retired after close to 40 years of Federal Service and returned to his family in El Paso, TX. It has been less than a year since he embarked on his journey to spend quality time with his wife and two young kids as well as spending his leisure time on the golf course.
Around Christmas time, Alfonso woke up with a bad headache and thought it was a migraine headache. It became so unbearable that his wife called "911" and the emergency responders rushed him to an El Paso hospital. The physicians’ initial diagnosis was excess fluid in the brain and proceeded to drain the fluid. While conducting further studies, the doctors found that our dear friend had brain tumors.
Alfonso was ultimately airlifted from El Paso, TX to a hospital at the University Of Arizona Medical Center, in Tucson Arizona and underwent a 6-hour operation to remove the tumors on January 21, 2015. Two days after the surgery, he opened his eyes and to the joy and amazement of his wife, he immediately recognized her and mustered the strength to address her as "My Adorable Wife".
Alfonso's family reports that his condition is not well and days go by without him opening up his eyes. As of today, he continues to remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The doctors reported that Alfonso has Astrocytoma (level 2) and will need to undergo oral chemotherapy treatment and focused radiation. However, Alfonso will need to gain strength before the treatments can begin.
A close friend of the family reports that they communicated with Alfonso’s family via “Face-Time” in an attempt to personally speak to Alfonso but Alfonso was unresponsive and is getting weaker by the day. Alfonso remains in the ICU and it is unclear how long it will be before he recovers.
Alfonso's son, Anthony, flew in from New Jersey and has been by his father's side since this ordeal began in early January 2015. Alfonso's wife continues to care for their two young children and she tries to commute as much as possible on the weekends from El Paso, TX to Tucson, AZ . Imagine how hard it must be for her to leave her children in the hands of others, while she attempts to support her husband and be by his side.
Unfortunately the hospital in Arizona does not provide any lodging for family members. As a result, Anthony Granville was forced to stay in a local hotel and quickly racked up daily expenses at the rate of $85 per day. Due to the excessive costs of the extended hotel stay, Anthony was forced to move out. Anthony now spends his day by his Father's side in the room, sleeping on a chair provided by the hospital.
If you can find it in your hearts to provide a donation to off-set the cost that the family has incurred while caring for our dear friend, it would go a long way in helping relieve the burden and stress that the family is going through. Any financial assistance that you provide the family would be greatly appreciated.
For those who are not able to provide funding but still want to help, consider preparing a small care package (toiletries, snacks, etc.) and mailing it directly to the hospital to assist Anthony while he continues to watch over our dear friend, Alfonso.
It is so sad to see our friend in this condition. We see him trying to be strong, but unfortunately his body is weak due to medication and his inability to get out of bed.
You all know Alfonso and you know he'd be the first to assist if the shoe were on the other foot. Please pass this on to as many people as possible.
Thank you for your time and please pray for him and his family.
