Hi everyone,
I’m Alaya’s aunt, Marissa and I am starting this GoFundMe on behalf of my sister Gianna and her husband Eric, because right now they are living every parent’s worst nightmare.
Since November 16, 2025, my niece Alaya has been hospitalized at Boston Children’s Hospital. During this time, she has endured three brain infections, five brain surgeries, an abdominal surgery, and at one point was placed on life support. This has turned into a long, frightening, and uncertain medical battle that no child or family should ever have to face.
Alaya is only 7, yet she continues to show a level of strength and resilience that is beyond comprehension. She is a true warrior. Watching her fight so bravely, while Gianna never leaves her side, has been both heartbreaking and inspiring.
Although Alaya has already been through so much, her journey is not over. She will require another brain surgery before she is able to come home, but at this time there is no clear date for when that surgery will happen or when she will finally be discharged. What we do know is that once Alaya comes home, she will require extensive, around the clock care and will need to remain on IV antifungal medications for several months after discharge.
The emotional toll of this journey is immeasurable but the financial burden has also become overwhelming.
Insurance does not cover everything. Out-of-pocket costs, such as care, medications not covered by insurance, and necessary medical equipment, add up quickly. Between uninsured expenses, Alaya’s prolonged hospital stay, missed work so Gianna and Eric can remain at her bedside, travel expenses and room and board when Eric and Luca come to visit, daily meals, and other related costs, the financial burden continues to grow, all while they are still responsible for their normal monthly bills.
Gianna and Eric would never ask for help themselves, but as their sister, I see how much they are carrying. This fundraiser is my way of lifting some of that weight and asking others to help support them through this unimaginable time.
Every donation will go directly toward Alaya’s medical care and helping ease the financial burden so Gianna and Eric can focus on what matters most: Alaya’s comfort and recovery.
If you are unable to donate, I completely understand. Sharing this fundraiser and keeping Alaya and her family in your prayers means more than words can express.
We believe in the power of faith and love, and we are holding onto hope even while facing so much uncertainty. Thank you for surrounding Alaya with love and support.
Thank you,
Marissa
