Book Tour in Support of Students in Shishmaref, Alaska
Donation protected
Greetings! I have great news after publishing my award-winning memoir, "Teaching in the Dark"! After FORTY years, I am finally returning to the place that inspired it all: Shishmaref, Alaska. Dates of travel: October 19-27, 2024.
I'll be joined by my brother, Todd Winslow Pierce, an award-winning photographer, who will help document our travels from Seattle to Nome, then to Shishmaref, then Juneau. We'll post photos and videos along the way! This will be a whirlwind book tour that includes book talks in each location and long overdue visits with former students and friends.
YOUR DONATION (no amount is too small) will pay for one leg of our journey: the plane ride from Nome to Shishmaref and back! I am going, not just for the book tour, but for the opportunity to spotlight and support a village that's been heavily impacted by climate change. I am also hoping to return to Seattle with student artwork to sell for them at holiday fairs and my December book talk at my former high school in Vail, CO.
When you donate, you will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a FREE copy of my book (eBook, softcover, or audio) and a piece of artwork from a student in Shishmaref (details still being hammered out on the latter).
TO ENTER the drawings:
- Complete your donation
- Click on the Contact link to let me know you want to be included in the drawing. If you send a mugshot of yourself (or a favorite pet), I'll add that to my Donors' Wall-of-Fame slide, to be displayed during my tour.
Thank you so much!!
